Over the past few weeks I have noticed my connection speed drops to 0.5meg between 5:30 and 11pm which is a tenth of my normal speed. I phoned customer services to be fobbed off with a line check which suprise surpise the enginer said was fine, I called Orange bac and ws told they were stil okking into it. Heres the twist I recieved a phonecall from Orange this evening (this time from england) I chatted with the guy and during the conversation he told me Orange had tested throttleing 3000 customers and after recieving no complaints have been rolling it out accross the country at peak hours. He advised me my contract ran out next month and I should look around. How can Orange do this a tenth of the speed is not acceptable I would even accept a 50% reduction for peak hours if it resulted in a relaible service but this is plain wrong. Anyone else experianced this? (ps dont look at the router connection speed use a web based service like http://www.thinkbroadband.com/...dtest.html

This has happened to me since I signed up with Orange, I havent got much of a clue about speedtests etc but this is one I got during peak times:
speed Down 322.42 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )
Speed Up 375.79 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk
But through the days it's 5.48Mb.
Can this be right or am I getting traffic shaping?
I'm not really clued up on all this to be honest but I can still game on-line and when I compare my ping it seems to be average when compared to other in-gamers. Can someone explain how I get rubbish speeds but can still online game via my PS3???

I have daily speed drops from a max speed of 6.5Mb top speed during the night to 5.5Mb approx during the period of time you mention. I have actually downloaded a file update from Adobe at about 9pm today and the speed was 5500kb for a 20Mb+ file as shown on Adobe's download window.
In this case, I only match the times I get a speed drop.
That's about a 15% loss of the max speed I can get which I find more than reasonable. However, your 90% drop is unnacceptable but unfortunately I don't know what's the reason of such massive speed loss during that particular time of the day.

I'd be dubious about that, it sounds very like he's confusing it with the 1/2 meg throttling for customers who breach the FUP. That was recently tested and introduced for all cases where usage gets too high on an account afaik.
My connection is the same, it keeps going REALLY slow (0.5mb) when it used to be on about 4mb average, the same thing happened at the start of January and it seemed to put itself right after a few days but now it's happening again the same time this month hmmmm ... all the 'technical support' call centre can say is 'it's not a problem with your connection'
I seem to get slow speeds of 0.5mb then it'll speed up to like 2mb then slow back down again, anyone know what this could be?!!!
