Well, a test email sent this afternoon from my Outlook Express to my Yahoo account, where it was instantly forwarded back to my Orange account, has just arrived over 4½ hours later.
Emails from OE are getting through (mostly) to their destinations, but definitely not in all cases. To guarantee good speed and certainty of arrival, I am now forced to use Yahoo, where there's no problem. I have not attempted sending via Orange webmail from their website.
Orange email is still unreliable, although I haven't seen the wassup error message today.
Thanks for the comment nhyder appreciate any help. I tried the pop and smtp numbers but it dident help.
Weil I can now get onto the Orange server and check my mail, it also seems I can ssend mail although havent a clue yet how long ot takes or if its def ok.
It takes ages but it seems "at the moment" I can receive e-mails. I am talking about using Outlook when I say this. However I cannot receive e-mails using Vista's in built windows mail it just times out.
There is obviously something badly wrong here, has Orange said anything yet to anyone ?

This would indicate there's something wrong in the WindowsMail settings.
Just to clarify :-
1. You are unable to send or receive in WindowsMail
2. You are able to both send and receive in Outlook.

I too have tried the IP settings, but it makes no difference to me either. I can send email using outlook ok, it is receiving that I still have the problem with. It continues to time out. I have set my time out at 5 minutes, which helps a bit, but I still need to refresh sometimes. It is exactly the same situation on my work computer which has a different operating system and different software. I have given up with their technical help as they have started repeating things. They still insist that I am at fault and not them. I did not set up my work computer so my IT experts must be as thick as me. I have now written to Orange and am awaiting a reply. It was all working fine, and less than 5 miniutes later, having changed nothing, it all went wrong. I have tried any combination of settings but to no avail. I think most of the problems with this are down to them and not their customers.
Orange mail servers are in the range 193.252.22.128 to 193.252.22.159 so if you have the time and inclination, you should be able to try these and find 2 that work for POP and SMTP !!!!!

A Weird thing just happened. I have done nothing, yet all of a sudden my emails are flying again. Orange claimed they had no problem, but they must have done something cos I haven't. Let's hope it is not a flash in the pan. The other weird thing is they have sent me an email in response to my plea for help insisting that there is not, and never has been, any problem with their servers, and I need to reinstall outlook!!!!

Wednesday 30 Jan 2008, and what do you know, I logged onto webmail to check my mail thinking dont bother with Outlook as it just wont work. I read your Post Poolie and thought give outlook a go !!!
Mine to has spookily started working with absolutely no changes by me. Its collecting mail just how it did before all my problems as explained started.
They have definiately done something, Im just keeping my fingers crossed.
I hope all you good people are fixed too, and it stays that way.
Thanks for all your comments and attempts to help, it is very much appreciated.
What I can say is that if I hadent of had a problem I wouldent have registered on this site, and Im so pleased I have.
Mine started working as well, perhapse the man who knew what to do came back from holiday, and put the plug back in that he left out before he went.
The worrying thing is that Orange wouldn't accept they had a problem.
But then they are all like that, last xmas my father in-laws phone stopped working, it took BT 3 months to fix it.
It was a broken wire between his house and the box 20 yards away. Mind you with a broken wire I still don't understand how his broardband worked fine the whole time.

Hello all,
We thought we would let you know that we did indeed try to find out for you what the cause of your email and website issues were from Thursday 24th January to Monday 28th January 2007.
In fact, we got in touch with a number of people and we got a response from Orange via ISPreview UK :
"We can confirm that Orange Broadband customers experienced difficulty accessing Orange email addresses and some websites over the weekend (26 - 27 January 2008). This was due to a technical issue with a third party supplier. Engineers worked hard to resolve the problem and full service has now been restored. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Thanks admin for finding out what went on. If only Orange had informed everybody at the onset instead of telling people to try all sorts of things. The ultimate was the advice to one person, (a post further back) to reinstall windows !!!!
If only they had put there hands up and admitted to a problem and it was being looked at personally I could of accepted that. I sent and received half a dozen or more e-mails to and from customer services blaming all sorts of problems to me or my software !!!
Once my contract with Orange is complete Im probably moving on, Orange just seem to have so many problems.
