I've got an Orange mob phone and have used their free e-mail add for yrs. For the 1st few yrs it was very reliable and had no probs but then when they changed the rules to say you must have an Orange phone to continue using their email it all started to go down hill. I have got one of the Orange.net accounts which Orange dont seem to support. I use my email add for work so I dont want to change as it will cause me probs with customers etc.
I put up with the continual logging out and slow response etc, but last year I changed my phone from PAYG to contract and kept the same number. Whilst in the shop I spoke to Orange on the phone to verify a few details etc and all went smoothly, until I got home and tried to log on to my emails. without warning Orange closed my account and to cut a long story short I complained to the CEO and still didnt get my emails back or my a/c reinstated and I had to set up a new a/c.
I had tried in the past to set up outlook to use for sending/receiving emails and followed all the rules that Orange state with regard to POP and SMTP etc but I only ever could download emails not send them. I ried emailing Orange but all i ever got was an automated repsonse.
After scouring the net and this excellent site I found where I had gone wrong!.
In Outlook - Tools - email a/cs - Internet Settings - in the "Server Information" box - Incoming Mail server enter POP.Orange.net
In the Outgoing mail box do not enter SMTP.Orange.net as it wont work and you will keep getting a message to say failoed to logon to outgoing mail server etc.
Instead you need to enter the name of your service provider. I use Sky to access the net so in my case the settings are SMTP.Sky.com.
remember to save your settings and test the connection and hopefully it will work.
At least now I can save all my emails on my PC and back them up so if Orange screw up again I have a backup.
Incidentally I did read somewhere that Orange must keep a copy somewhere for data protection reasons so I might have a go under that.
guess what? tried to send email today and the Bl@@dy thing wont sent!!!
I've not changed any settings since sat, apart from complaining to Sky that my speed was too slow. I'm getting error message Ox800ccc78 whatever that is?
