I installed one of Orange's Thomson Speedtouch Wireless adapter's on my PC today, using the set-up disc provided in the pack, it was working fine for a while but now I am starting to have problems.
The first problem is I keep getting BSOD's, mainly when using media player or the internet, and I cannot seem to find any details of what may be causing the BSOD in the event viewer once I reboot. This was not happening until today.
In addition to this I also would like to change the location of the adapter, from my front mounted USB port to one at the back, when I put the adapter in another USB port it does not display any signal strength and I cannot connect.
If anyone could offer any help it would be most appreciated, My Belkin adapter I purchased only 6 days ago has just stopped working so I'm trying to get the Orange one working.
Can you uninstall the adapter and try a wired connection to see if you get the same BSOD's? If so it means it's a problem with windows itself, all upto date with updates?
Does windows recognise the adapter plugged in at the back but just can't see any wireless networks?
Did you get the half golf ball docking cable with the adapter, that can help so you can position the adapter in a better location. If not a normal USB extension cable may be of help.
I cannot uninstall the adapter, I've tried to find a listing for it in add/remove programs but there is only the listing to uninstall my livebox. I will try a wired connection and let you know what happens, I will try to write down the details of the next BSOD as well before it quickly disappears.
Windows does recognise the adapter when I plug it in the back, and there is wireless networks displayed but my network has no signal strength and will not let me connect to it
Yeah I have the half golf ball docking station, I'll try positioning it elsewhere, I just wouldn't of minded it been it the back as I use both front mounted USB ports quite often.
Update: I've just managed to get the adapter working plugged into the back, I paired it with the livebox and it has now connected successfully, I'll see if the PC BSOD's with the adapter plugged into a back USB.
If it does then there is another way to uninstall it.
Get into device manager (Hardware tab of the system control panel icon) and expand the network adapter section,
Right click the adapter (802.11 etc, listing) and select uninstall,
If given the option to delete files then tick it,
Once done unplug the adapter and run the CD again to reinstall.
