Well after being pushed from pillar to post, never getting a straight answer (and worse, being lied to on occasion) and only ever having experienced decent (6mb) speeds for no more than a few weeks in my year of 'up to 8mb' I have finally escaped Orange.
The final straw was the last 2mths of being throttled back to 1,3mb. I could tell they were doing it cos I'd resync and things would be ok-ish for a short spell before speeds fell completely away again.
I've had enough, I found out (and got it in writing) that I was now out of contract and I insisted on my MAC code.
Even with the change over they managed to get that wrong.
They are not supposed to close your account (bearing in mind I've actually paid to the 2nd of Jan 2008....wish I'd known they don't refund on part of the month's unused payments - well it is about half the month left to go) until it is certain that you have properly transferred to your new ISP.
BT allow 7 days overlap, apparantly.
I got left high & dry cos they cut me off double quick, litterally on the day service was meant to transfer
(tho fortunately I lost my connection only from about 11pm until 1pm next day when I was able to sort things out with my new ISP).
I couldn't get the Livebox to connect even tho everything on the line itself had been done
(does anyone know, are they locked to Orange - via the log-in address? I'm thinking if it doesn't end with .fs or any other Orange address it just won't connect?).
I'm just glad I kept the little Speedtouch 330 modem.
With the fast speed drivers I'm straight away getting a nice stable 6mb and maybe it'll pick up a little bit on that over the next day or so.
Still, who cares. I don't now.
Pity cos they used to be great as Freeserve, they were ok as Wanadoo but terrible as Orange.
I doubt they could care less about losing long-term customers and if they clearly couldn't really care less then why should I?
I went for Aquiss.
It's slightly more money (about £1 a week) but if the reviews are true (and the 1 month contract is IMO a great indicator of how much faith they have in their service/product) then I'm happy to pay the little extra for that service/product.
It's not unlimited but it's 30gbs peak and 300gbs off peak per month.
No throttling ever and friendly knowledgeable British support staff.
I know people are always saying you shouldn't put up with it and you should leave.
I'm just glad I finally did.
