Newbie at this. Orange supplied me with a livebox due to intermittent connection over a year and also various error messages when trying to connect to the internet
I only use it for internet and do not have any other computers connected to it or telephones.
The question is do I leave it on permanently and just turn the tower and monitor off on an evening and leave the mains connected or can I turn it off completely.
Most people leave their routers / liveboxes on all the time. If you switch off you have to resynch to the exchange and authenticate etc. I am not saying if you leave you're livebox on permanently you will have a guaranteed connection all the time though because it could drop even then
Many thanks - I have been turning it off and it took about 10 minutes to come on on a morning. I just wanted to know if I had to leave everything switched on.
The other thing you need to remember is people may use the livebox as a 2nd phone line, but I wouldn't count on it as your main line in case your connection goes down
Personally I would leave it on. If it's working DON'T touch it. It will probably stop soon anyway. And then you get to experience the 'call centre' Best of luck.
Always leave mine on, powercycle it every two weeks or so, doesnt heat up and doesnt draw much current, no problem.
Hi
How do you powercycle the livebox please? also have just tested my connection speed online and it's 1662 I have no idea what this means so can you tell me please.... how many mb is it et al?

Hi.
Just do the following....
Select Start and Shut Down on your PC
next, disconnect all the cables from your Livebox and wait 30 seconds then
turn your computer back on
plug the power cable back into your Livebox and all other cables.
Me , i sometimes just pull the power cord from the livebox, count to 30 and plug it in again, works ok.
Hi poutine
The package I wanted was £11.99 2 mgb I said I didn't want the wireless router. Anyway, I found out the b*rstid signed me up for the 6 mgb package.... only 1p more I know but I thought I might have more trouble with the livebox..... sshh.... it's ok at the moment except that I don't like it being on all the time. I started to switch it off at first to disconnect but thought it might sod the box up.... so I just disconnect the ethernet cable to come off line which I don't like doing in case I break the connection plug... sigh. Would it disconnect and connect properly if I just disabled the connection on screen (via the two little pc screens on the task bar)?
btw.... why would one want to powercycle the live box anyway.... if it's going ok why bother....? It's ok I'm a technophobe so know nuffink

Thats ok
Just leave it on all the time if you can, i have mine plugged separately from the rest of my plugs !! ( so i can turn off the power to the PC etc)
Only time i ever really turn off my livebox is during lightning and thunder.
Plugs out the lot !! lol.
It doesnt draw much current and doesnt heat up much.
By power-cycling, you are essentially resetting it , can be useful if your connection speeds a bit sluggish, sometimes it can pep it up .
Like you said , you dont need to do anything if its all running ok.
