After a very long and traumatic service I cancelled my broadband account in Jan 07. Today, 19th December I get a phone call from Orange broadband accounts insisting that I have a contract with them. He asked me for my details so that we could proceed? I told him that it was stopped long ago. The direct debit had been set up on my credit card and not my current account so only they could halt payments. After demanding more information I put the phone down on him. No doubt I will now get a more serious letter - ooh, feel the fear.
You would have thought they would have billed me or made contact ealier, pehaps they are going bust - yay!!
Lastly, when I phoned them in January they said that I had two choices, firstly to cancel out right and not receive a MAC code or receive their own MAC code which was limited to a select list of companies and this option would keep me live. I chose to cancel and total freedom.
