read other topic, but wouldnt let me post on it.
same problem, on Orange bought a Netgear DG834G as women said it would work with Orange no prob. connected router wirelessy (PC in another room) says netgear is connected, but cant access the internet.
does an ethernet need to be plugged in?? or do i just need to configure the settings???
please help!
No need for ethernet other it wouldn't be wireless would it
Those symptoms sound like you have possibly got the wrong WPA/WEP key, or maybe you're trying to accidentally connect to a neighbours netgear
What I would do under the "wireless settings" in your router
change the SSID to something other than NETGEAR
ensure "Enable Wireless Access Point" is ticked
ensure "Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)" is ticked for now
ensure "WPA-PSK" is ticked for your security method
enter your wireless key
then go onto your PC and see if you can see your router under the new name and see if you can connect to it. If so, then ensure "Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)" is not ticked.

It would probably be easier if you disable the wireless security till you have managed to wirelessly connect to your router, if you can plug the ethernet cable in while you configure it wirelessly ( then you can access the routers config page and will make it a lot easier for you) once you have plugged it in as sweeperdog said change the SSID to something you want to name it and channel (i use channel 6 it works best for me ) if you have auto try that, view the available wireless networks in range and try to connect to your one if its successful enable the wireless access point ( at that point your wireless connection will drop again till you allow it in the access list) and choose your security options ( i use WPA-PSK ) WPA or WPA-2 is the more secure options then choose the WPA-PSK Security Encryption option apply it once all enabled you can set up your access list there you should see the adaptor make sure its yours and add it so it can connect to the router,(if you don't add it your pc will not be able to connect to it) then you must put in the same security settings on your pc in network connections to the appropriate connection once your happy that the wireless connection is established you can disconnect the ethernet cable.

Actually that's a good point. Out of the box netgears have wireless turned off by default, so she'll need to use a LAN cable. Compare this with the livebox which enables wireless after a reset
right, have been on to my PC and tried to follow instructions (thanks by the way!), settings must be a bit different, no box to click for "allow broadcast of name SSID" or "WPA-PSK".
too far away to even try to connect to phone with etherent cable (or a LAN)
but i've managed to get the wireless network connected (so it says, theres a green PC on the bottom info bar) but when i click on internet explorer - it says connect, and brings up the dial-up connection that i used to use to connect to Orange before, or work offline.
feels like im halfway there, but just cant work the internet explorer

Hello nicola@nicolaclaire
Welcome to OrangeProblems.co.uk
You need to tell Internet Explorer not to use your dial-up settings:
Open Internet Explorer
Cancel the dial up box and just let Internet Explorer show you the unable to see webpage page
Depending on which version of IE you are using, find:
Tools >> Internet Options >>
Click the "Connections" tab
Highlight "Never dial a connection"
Then click the button "LAN Settings"
Make sure there is a tick in "Automatically Detect Settings"
Now Apply (or OK) until all boxes closed
Close IE
Open IE
Hopefully, you should now have your internet connection (not sure if you need a restart - think not though)
right done that and its done something (thanks )
typed in that number thingy in address bar, and its come up with netgear setting..
asking for PPPoA ??
is that just my user name i had for Orange or something else ...

You are not connected to the internet go to the adsl settings page in the router and put in these settings
Multiplexing method: VC-Based
VPI=0
VCI=38
click apply
Go to the basic settings page and
Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login? choose yes then below choose
Encapsulation: PPP over ATM
then put in ur dsl username and password
Internet IP address choose Get Dynamically from ISP
DNS address: Get automatically from ISP
click apply give it a minute to try and connect.
