still having a hell of a lot of problems getting my ps3 online, it just doesn't seem to want to work. i purchased a wireless router over the weekend made by Zoom, model = ADSL Fastlane X6 5590.
the broadband is obviously through Orange, not sure on speed, but the modem is a speedtouch 330 (little thing with two green lights that stay lit).
i connected the new router in the normal way. Ethernet cable into back of router, then router into phoneline via the little ADSL filter. The Ethernet light stays on, as does the WLAN light. The problem lights that will not stay on are the DSL light that constantly flashed and no internet light either.
sometimes the DSL light does stay on permanently though.
the PS3 strangely enough does pick up the fact that there is a router there and that the signal strength is 100%. the problem seems to be I cannot get online through the new wireless router, only my existing speedtouch modem. it works around a friend's house on his PC fine, I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Are you sure you've got all the cables connected up ok? A seperate DSL and Online light usually indicate the sync and logged in status, but I can't be certain without checking the manual.
Either way the DSL light flashing then going solid would usually mean a change in sync status, effectively it's having trouble connecting onto the signal correctly. Are you sure everything connected to your phone line is filtered?
Assuming a solid DSL light means sync'd then once it is you'd usually need to log into the router to put your Orange username and password in. The manual should talk you through that.
had another go at this tonight, still no joy. the pc simply won't read that the modem's there. all lights are on now, except the internet light.
have got to the stages where you put in your internet account's username and password, then it just says the same old thing - Zoom ADSL modem not found. really don't know what the hell's going wrong.
the silly thing is, the ps3 does pick up a wireless signal, so it knows the modem's there and the signal's fine, it's just not feeding it the internet.
Ok first we need to check that ethernet connection.
Go into network connections in the control panel and look for a Local Area Connection, right click and make sure it has an option for disable (meaning it's turned on) and if so go into status. Check the support tab and see what the address type and IP are showing.
If there's a default gateway number then you can try putting that into internet explorer to access the router config. That should be a more direct way at getting at the settings for it.
Go to start,
Click control panel,
Check the left hand side for an option saying switch to....,
If it's says category view skip the next line,
If it says classic view then click it to get more options,
Go into network connections,
You should have a LAN and high high speed connections section which contains a local area connection if not whats there,
Right click the local area connection,
If the first option is enable then click it otherwise click properties,
Look for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list box,
Select it and click properties,
The next window should show it set to the two automatic options one for IP and one for DNS,
If they're not on the automatic options change it so they are and ok things until you're back to the network connections windor,
Right click local area connection and select status, this should show as connected unless something is wrong,
Go into the support tab,
The address type should read as assigned by DHCP with the IP address probably begining 192.168.1.xxx sometimes the last 1 will be different but that depends on manufacturer,
Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0,
Default gateway probably 192.168.1.1 but again this could vary depending on the manufacturer settings make a note of it,
Open internet explorer (leave the other windows incase needed),
Put the default gateway number into the address bar and see if it comes up with a page (should be from your router),
The router manual should explain how to access it (usually protected with the username and password as "admin" but sometimes other simple combinations),
Normally once you get in there'll be a connection settings/internet/setup wizard that will guide you through the process if it asks for something you're not sure on it should be in the Orange settings link at the top of this page. Most UK routers just need the username and password entering to work as broadband settings are the same for almost every ISP.
Once done with that there should be a status page relating to the connection giving more info, again the router manual should say more about that. If you get stuck at any point just post back here.
