Hi, new to the forum, hope somebody can advise me.
I was on home starter and my line speed was cut to 608kbps and stayed there. I was persuaded to upgrade to the Home Max package which I have just done and to my surprise I recieved an email telling me that my new speed was upto 1meg!!!
I foolishly assumed that my line speed would increase when I went on the Max package.
Just phoned customer service and they said there is nothing they can do and that my current speed is all my line will support and others in my area get the same.
I entered my postcode into an online speed checker and they say that I should expect to get 4meg speeds.
I pointed out to the lady that I have now been persuaded to sign an 18 month contract to only recieve a fraction of the speed i am paying for. "Nothing we can do" was the reply.
So my question is, are they bullsh*tting me about this line speed?
crap if you are LLu'd - but with your specs you should be getting better than 1MB ADSL or LLU
Pete, dont ditch BT - you'll get the cheapest calls over BT than you will over Orange , private mail me if your intrested - dont want advertise another website - admin might flame me
You got Sky ? my mates Sky broadband rocks @ 13MB over a mile from the exchange - jammy bugger ! lol

No, ditching BT is ideal for me because i dont use the landline atall, so switching to the single payment of 24 quid saves me money and i can use voip if i really want to make a landline call.
Not got Sky, dont watch it, i hardly ever watch tv.
What is with this magic number of 608kbps? Seen other Orange customers saying they were set at it to fix an unreliable line.
I can live with it, well i have to now im in the contract. At least i dont have connection issues. I had bad noise on the line for 18 months and intermittent connection, until i realised it was an old extension wire in my house causing the problem. Its perfect now.
have you removed the old feedback wire from your BT Master socket, how far are you from your exchange ?
samknows.com
Yep feedback wire is gone. It was just an inch of wire hanging from the master socket and only connected to the number 5 pin. I forgot it was there. The second I removed it my line was perfect and i havent disconnected or had any line noise since. If id done that 18 months ago i would have saved a fortune in phoning Orange.
Just downloaded the speedtouch optimizer from the Orange website. It has changed the mode to ISO rather than bulk and i am showing a usb bandwith of 7800 so im ready for 8mb but lo and behold my line rate is still at 608kbps.
So looks like i am capped at 608 regardless of anything my end and Orange have well and truly shafted me.
They kept saying on the phone it might change in future. Why would it? Are they planning to tweak everyones LLU when the system is more stable?
