DISCONNECT LIVEBOX, and use your old SpeedTouch 330, or your own adsl modem/router, for ftp access to FreeServe/Wanadoo/Orange free webspace.
There's a lot of speculation and rubbish talked on threads in here about having to use "dial-up" to access your Free webspace.
I occasionally wade through here - orangeproblems.co.uk and elsewhere, looking for, and wondering if there ever will be, a solution for the Orange Livebox's inability to connect to my free Orange webspace (originally FreeServe, then Wanadoo, free webspace). I just read through a thread, on this site, where someone suggested, (to a person having this same old problem), turning off the Livebox NAT firewall, (make sure you have a good software firewall in place before trying this), and this seemed to work for him. I just tried it - it does not work work for me.
The only way I can Dreamweaver/ftp/connect to my Orange free webspace is to disconnect Livebox and use my Linksys WAG354G adsl modem/router. This is a real pain because I normally use my Linksys as a dumb router (normally Livebox as the "front" modem/router, so that VOIP works ! So, in other words, I have to reconfigure hardware to ftp !
I simply disconnect Livebox and use my own (non-voip equipped) adsl modem/router, and all is OK !
I noticed that several people have suggested using an older Orange Speedtouch 330 adsl USB modem, and ftp'ing to Orange free webspace will work okay using that but, WHAT A BODGE UP, ...having to do all that !
....am going to to have to arrange leads, so that hardware change-over is a lot easier !
Thanks Elhana,
I don't know enough about demilitarized zones and port forwarding to play around with that ! ...and I don't really want to, or need to, ...I'm sort of "happy" enough just moaning about having to temporarily disconnect Livebox and use my Orange adsl signal on my Linksys WAG354G. I only really initially posted here, because I've seeen several people on this web-site discussing, and "stabbing around in the dark" on this issue. I thought it might help some poor soul who can no longer access their web-site/free Orange webspace using Livebox, to know that one can dig-out and dust-off his or her old Wanadoo Speedtouch 330, or use ones own adsl modem/router to once again access his or her Orange free webspace.
I emailed Orange months ago about this, and got the reply, "...Orange is aware there is an issue accessing the Orange free websoace with Livebox, and we are working on it..." ...or something like that !
I don't believe they are working on it at all, or there would surely by now, have released advice on how to solve it, or transmitted a firmware upgrade for Livebox that would have fixed it.
It took me over a year to work out how to use Linksys WAG354G as a dumb router, so that it would send wi-fi to Dads PC in the house, and I finally figured out that Livebox as the "front router" was DHCP'ing an address to Dad's PC via Linksyswireless, (DHCP has to be off in WAG354G), !
http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html ...I studied this until I knew it almost off by heart !
Anyhooooo, when I want to access my Orange free webspace I have to switch on DHCP in WAG354g, set Gateway in it back to 192.168.1.1 , switch everything off, change leads around, and then I can ftp !
