Since the "30 minute" disconnection when I was "upgraded" from 1Mb to 8Mb, I am still without a service over two weeks later. I've been through the troubleshooting and line test pantomime, (oh yes I have! ) and I know the Tech Support call centre scripts off by heart.
UK Customer service have ordered a livebox and we'll see if that fixes the problem. In the meantime I have twice been told by UK customer service that the Speedtouch 330 cannnot support 8Mb and twice by Tech Support in India that it can and that other UK customers are running 8Mb on the 330.
AFAIK Orange list the 330 as upto 6.5 meg however the upgrade from Speedtouch themselves and the datasheet show it going upto 8 meg.
I'm more tempted to believe the Speedtouch figure although throwing that much data over a USB 1 connection would start to push things if you add any other devices.
I've got speedtouch 330 modem too and only get around 330-340kbs max download speed.I have keyboard plus mouse connected to motherboard via usb too just like the modem, could this be the reasons? i really do not know either otherwise why i get slow speed too when it should be 8mb.(it also says on BT site that my phoneline supports 6.5-8mb speeds so i should at least be 5mb+ speeds surely?)
Livebox arrived over 2 weeks after being told it would be here within 10 working days. Plugged in to main BT socket, all sockets filtered, reset to defaults holding button 1 and repowering etc etc and, guess what? No ADSL sync.
After over an hour on hold during 6 calls to tech support finally got a few answers. Apparently the problem was reported to third party engineers over two weeks ago and fault confirmed but still no response over 2 weeks later. Like I havn't been asking for one.....
So, maybe the 330 does work at 8Mb if it actually has an ADSL service to communicate with???
The downtime occurred when I was away on holiday. I tried to connect when I returned and everything seemed to be ok - up from 1 mb to about 2.4.
I then received an email which told me that I should be able to receive 5.5 mb on my line and directed me to the link to optimise the modem. Having done so, I still achieved a maximum of about 2.4 mb, but making a connection to the internet become slower and slower until it finally crashed over the weekend, giving me the error message 734.
I came into work yesterday and googled the error message, which is when I came across this forum. I've tried system restore and will try reinstalling the modem before contacting Orange. Having read various postings I'm not confident of success. Will let you know how I get on.
