I'm about to start proceedings to move away from Orange after been with them since the late 90s when it was Freeserve/Wanadoo etc. I'm about 11 months through the contract I suffered when I upgraded to the upto 8Meg service and dont mind paying the remaining one or two months of my contract if it means I can escape as just lately I've been getting regular download speeds as low as 18kbps!. Anyway, I was wondering, once I've go my MAC code and signed up with someone else, bearing in mind I'm not cancelling my contract, and I'm paying the remainder off, what do I have to do with the livebox? will Orange demand it back for example? I dont think I even have the original box, CD's and manuals etc.
They should send a postage paid bag for you to send it bag in. If you don't have a box I guess try and get some bubble wrap or something
I guess the original CD's will be obsolete, and the manuals irrelevant since they won't have the Orange branding on them
Also bear in mind any filters they may have sent you too
Good luck with your new ISP
Thanks for that. Just rang them up this evening and ordered my MAC code, so things have started now. Incedentally, an hour or so after my phone call to Orange, my connection has improved drastically, maybe its just a coincedence, either way I'm still leaving asap!
I also have a livebox and my contract is up mid december. So what i'm asking is do i call up for my MAC code before or after my contract ends
Also do they pay the postage for you sending the live box back i still have the original box.

So close to your contract end, in your postion I'd take no chances and wait until contract expired. As a MAC is only valid for a limited period it makes sense presenting it to your new ISP as soon as possible after you get it in case of any delays. But if the new ISP processes your order very quickly you ideally want to be out of contract period when things start to happen.
So I'd choose your new ISP, ask for your MAC as soon as the Orange contract expires and immediately give it to the new ISP.
Once everything is running OK with new ISP, contact Orange (hopefully for the last time!) to confirm that your account is indeed closed, but watch your bank account/credit card for the next few months.

i could no longer make phone calls through my livebox and after Three months of phone calls they agreed with me that the problem was not my line , phone , or cables so finally agred to send a new live box but said i had to send the old one back, i told them that i owned the livebox as i paid 80 quid to wanadoo for it before they started giveing them away.
in the end they said they would note it in there notes i was refuseing to return the livebox and i would be billed. that was 4 months ago and have heard nothing more. but then i am out of contract so i never thought i would.

Mate, they will probably come for it once you've left Orange
My switch over date to my new ISP is Friday 14th. Ever since getting my MAC code my internet connection from Orange has gone through the roof performance wise, its totally brilliant, faster than I've ever had it and very consistent now. All that tells me is that it was them all the long causing the problems, it wasn't me, my phone line or my computer causing it. Atleast I know theres no reason my new service wont work fine because after a while you really do start to think the problem might be at your end when nothing you do or say to them makes a difference.

Exactly the same with me!
I'm due to change tomorrow, and I've been getting speeds between 4-6Mbps most of the time. It has dropped to 3Mbps on the odd occasion, but I have high hopes =)
Well....I've been rid of Orange since the middle of December now and loving it. I'm now with ADSL24 on a fixed speed 2mb connection as my line only supports about 2.5mb and all is fine. I'm consistently getting speeds of 1.9mb and always atleast 1.8. I bought my own modem/router which works ten times better than the damn livebox. I personally highly recommend ADSL24.
As for the livebox, I've heared absolutely nothing from Orange about whats going to happen with it. Its just lurking in the corner at the moment but if it turns out they dont want it back, I'll have great fun destroying it in some spectacular way! I think I deserve that much after 11 and a half months of internet misery.

If they have not contacted you after 3 months, in law you can claim ownership. Then you do do as you please with it.
However, if they do contact you after 3 months and it is still in your posession, you should return it, but you are entitled to charge them a "reasonable" amount for storage.
