I found this forum whilst trying to find an answer to a problem I've got, using Orange broadband. (I'm sure her speed is upto 2Meg as bandwidth tests keep displaying speeds between 600k and 900k - although it could be 1Meg, which I wasn't aware Orange did)
I built a wireless network for my girlfriend and her family the other day (Its probably the 5th or 6th one I've done - of which I've built both cable and ADSL networks - all successfully) and since building the network, the two laptops lose their internet connection and the internet light on the router changes from green to red, signalling no connection. All the other lights work, the phone line is fine and the laptops connect to the router for such activities as file sharing etc.
I have built the network as usual, using the wired connection to the router from one laptop, which worked, then rebooting it, disconnecting the wire and running the laptops wireless. This worked on saturday night until approx 11pm (some 5hrs after I had finished building the network) and since has not worked. I have gone back through the 192.168.2.1 page that Belkin uses (sunday morning) for its settings and tried re-configuring it but to no avail.
I have not used the Belkin CD provided with the laptop as I was trying to avoid putting software onto my girlfriends laptop if not neccessary, as I used the IP page for the settings and for adding security to the network. It is worth noting that both laptops use Windows Vista.
I have the network running on PPPoA and have tried PPPoE. Is it essential that the username and password be entered onto Belkins settings page? I have done this, however I am unsure if the details my girlfriend has given me are 100% correct, although she says that through their old wired connection with the modem they used the same username and password.
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED! APOLOGIES FOR THE LENGTH OF THE POST BUT I THOUGHT THAT I AM MORE LIKELY TO GET A MORE HELPFUL RESPONSE IF I PROVIDE AS MUCH INFO AS A I CAN!
I have this same problem mine drops out willy nilly I turn the power to the router off @ the plug and turn it back on it does work but sometimes takes a few attempts.
As far as the name and password go yes it has to be exact otherwise you are on a loser m8.
Remember it has to be the original one given by the isp provider and not the email one used, I am sure you have already done that but it was just in case.
I have a fairly new router so I don't know which is at fault, I have tried to contact Orange but as you probably already know this is almost an impossible task!!!
I have reset the mtu settings and from the fact I can get on the internet must mean it is set up right??
Mine drops out over night sometimes as well for no given reason.
Hope this helps.
