I received an email from Orange yesterday, saying "We've finished making the changes we emailed you about and you're now getting up to 4.5 Meg broadband."
Firstly, I never received an email about any changes, but most importantly, my speed does not go over 1mb now!! Previously I was able to get around 2.5mb, with the worst being about 2mb.
The figures from the livebox are:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 24.0
Attenuation (dB) : 53.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 3680
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream 1152 Upstream 288
I think the noise margin used to be about 11db, but the attentuation has always been around 50db or so.
Can anyone help please? I'm off to work now, so don't have time to spend hours on the phone to Orange, that'll have to wait until tomorrow.
Looks like you've been moved from ADSL Max to LLU which is currently set to 1 meg.
The margin is higher because the sync speed is down at the moment.
As it's just changed you're best off waiting a few days. The speed can sometimes lag behind on LLU due to how it works, also it gives the order time to complete as not much can be done until it does.
I don't know if your speed will go up. I will add though during my 2 weeks I did press them hard, and at the end I asked for my MAC code which I told them I would be invoking if service did not improve within 2 weeks
If you don't want the stress of ringing India, then log into your members area and look for article kb165 - they will tell you to do this anyway so best off submitting your complaint that way from the start. Also they will want 3 thinkbroadband speed tests before they will do anything.
Thanks sweeperdog. I've looked at article kb165 and have done all that it suggests. I think we both know that their problem solving won't make any difference to the speed.
I've just logged into my account, and gone to the "change speed" option.
This is the option I have :-
Your current broadband speed is:4.5Meg
You can upgrade up to:3Meg
Upgrade cost:free
If anything, it made me laugh!!
Looks like I'll give it a few days and then give them a ring early next week.
If I ask for an "upgrade", do you think they'll stick me back on adsl max??
I very much doubt it. The one thing you will get though is a new contract, and probably 18 months at that
For a laugh I logged in too and got this
Your current broadband speed is: 6Meg
You can upgrade up to:4Meg
Upgrade cost: free
And that's on a LLU 2272 speed too that never changes
