My Orange nightmare is due to come to and end when my contract with them expires in early January 2008. In the terms and conditions it says I need to give them 30 days notice when I want to change suppliers.
My questions is: Can I give them 30 days notice 30 days before my contract finishes so that I can move on the day my contract expires or do I have to give them notice on the day my contract actually finishes and put up with another month of poor service! I couldn't see anything in the t & c's to clarify this so any help would be greatly appreciated!
According to New_Appollo who is an employee your 30 day notice period is invoked from the moment you use your MAC
Thanks for the reply sweeperdog! And just to clarify: On the day my contract expires I can phone them up and cancel my broadband and they then have to issue me a MAC code within 5 days of me cancelling regardless of the 30 day notice period mentioned in the t & c ?
Just phone them a few days before your contract finishes and ask for the MAC along with the exact finish date if you're not sure. Then you can migrate pretty much as soon as the contract ends and the 30 days is applied afterwards.
have a look through thier T&C. there may be other ways to 'get out' of your contract.
incidently you have 30 days to use your MAC code and you can request it at anytime regardless of weather you use it or not. they will however tell you you will owe them x amount of money to the end of the contract.
so, give them 30 days notice, then after 20 days of that period, ring up for a MAC. and as soon as your 30 days is up cancel the direct debit. that way they cant take money from you.
Thanks for the info Gav, However I did phone Orange shortly after my original post just to confirm with them the expiry date of my contract and they said it had in fact expired! So I asked them for my MAC code. They then actually tried to resolve my problems by offering to get a engineer to contact me but I told them it was too late! They also said that my problems would not be resolved by going to another ISP but I insisted I wanted to leave. And to Orange's credit they sent me my MAC code about 7 hours after contacting them. I'm now with IDNet and guess what? I have no problems what so ever! My Orange nightmare is over
Many thanks Stevelondon. I must confess when I was doing some research into my next ISP I was amazed at how poorly most of them were performing. However I did notice that nobody seems to have a bad word about IDNet so I took the plunge and I'm really happy with them!
