Having discovered I'd been paying extra for a service which Orange no longer had I signed up for a Livebox which arrived this week & has set up OK. However I use a number of p2p sharing sites including soulseek - since the livebox has been installed the number of users I can access (and those who have access to me) has been severely curtailed. In reading other posts it seems to be a problem with configuring the port in use.
Under the previous Speedtouch modem, things worked fine & both the Windows Firewall and Zone Alarm were configured to accept Soulseek. This has not changed and the settings still look OK.
Thats a normal effect of going from a modem to a router.
Modems take data in at one side and pass them through to the device on the other, nice and simple.
Routers on the other hand, because they can and often do have multiple devices connected, need to be told where to send data that it's not expecting. Think of a package being sent to a block of flats but without the flat number, it gets sent back because they don't know where to post it.
You need to setup port forwarding, and a static IP for the PC too really. There's a nice guide for how to do it...
