Since "upgrading" to 8mb earlier this year, I keep getting disconnected. This only happens in the evening. I am now using a different PC (not new) but the same modem (Speedtouch 330). I am connected to Skyport exchange and I think I'm on LLU. Samknows says no but BTspeedtester comes up with an error which I understands means that I am. One thing I noticed on my old machine was that my hard drive would whirr into action just before I was disconnected. Haven't noticed that on my current machine.
Is there anything I should consider doing from this end before I contact Orange?

Oh, forgot to mention. when I reconnect it always fails first time with the 734 error - something about a PPP server. The second attempt is than succesful.
I am getting the same thing for thge last week or so now - it keeps dropping in the evenings ususally between 7-8:30pm. I have a livebox and sometimes I can connect back in with my old Voyager Modem (which still shows a 6 meg connection available on it's status screen even if I cannot connect to it??!).
I just get the impression that they are still struggling big time with everything and won't admit it. Can't be bothered wasting my time, money and increasing my stress levels by contacting the help line and being told that they awill run (non-conclusive) tests on my line which will take a couple of days (and not resolve anything). I think I will write to them this time instread.
On another note, the speed issue on my line isn't so bad as it used to be - but it is till not as good as when I was on PlusNet. If I had known then what I know now I would still be paying for them as my ISP rather than going for all the problems I have had with Orange (which I get for free!!!)
It's been a while since I was last on these forums but then it's actually been a month or so since i've had any problems....until about a week ago.
Disconnections only happen in the evening. Regardless of my IP address speedtests done at 7:30 in the morning give me upwards of a 4000kbps download rate. In the evening this has sunk as low as 200kbps.
Why only disconnects in the evening? Pretty obvious...Orange are struggling.
I try renewing my IP up to 20 times usually before getting one that isn't capped at less than a meg and even then it's usually mysteriously disconnected around 20 mins later....as if by magic.
