Like many of the threads on here, my question relates to removing Orange's "tap" on the phone line. The back story to my problem is this:
Last year, my former housemate had an Orange mobile contract and, as part of that contract, he was given "free" Broadband. We used this "free" broadband service until May this year. Unfortunately, the housemate didn't tell Orange to remove the Broadband. I found out that Orange were still occupying the line when I received an e-mail from PlusNet asking for a MAC code.
So, I asked my former housemate to get a MAC code from Orange. He called them and cancelled the broadband on the 24th September. Orange told him that a MAC code wouldn't be required because they were ending the service as per his request.
Did Orange remove themselves from the line? Of course not. Then ensued a six week period in which the BT phone line number had to be changed because BT Wholesale wouldn't remove the "tap" unless the phone line account holder was myself.
Guess what? Yep, the "tap" still exists! PlusNet have now asked me to call BT Wholesale direct. BT told me that it would take 7-10 working days to remove it.
My question is this: is there a way of getting a MAC code from Orange to speed up the process? I saw that their phone line numbers are for their customers, of which I am not.

If your former housemate cancelled his Orange contract ending the service on the 24th september then the tag should have been removed long ago i would do what borednow said contact Ofcom and the ISPA explaining it all as its quite clear Orange have no reason whatsoever to keep the tag on your line other than makeing it awkward for you to get broadband from another supplier.

Bored now was correct stating, "As the Orange service has already been cancelled, a MAC cannot be issued"
The tag is on the line, not on the telephone number. Changing telephone numbers still uses the same line.
When a customer cancels, Orange apply a 30 day cancellation notice. After the notice has completed they the ask BT to remove the tag from the line. This generally takes up to 10 workig days.
As the OP said, "He called them and cancelled the broadband on the 24th September". That means the actual account cancellation was completed on 30 October. The tag should therefore be removed by the 13th November.

No......I've tried all methods and unless you are using Orange time interpretation I can't agree with your calculation.
Is 30 days, working days or calendar ?

Thanks for that, it was a miscalculation.... That means the actual account cancellation was completed on 24 October. the tag should therefore be removed by the 6th November.
