ANYBODY HELP
I AM TRYING TO CANCEL MY Orange BROADBAND ACCOUNT BUT I AM FINDING THIS IMPOSSIBLE
A COLLEAGUE SET UP THE ACCOUNT AROUND 4/5 YEARS AGO UNDER HIS NAME WITH MY CREDIT CARD DETAILS AS PAYMENT
THE LINE THAT THE BROADBAND WAS ON HAS NOW BEEN DISCONNECTED
BUT THE PERSON WHO WAS THE ACCOUNT HOLDER IS NO LONGER A COLLEAGUE AND IS NO LONGER LIVING THE UK I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE HE IS
I HAVE TRIED TO CANCEL BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD DUE TO THE DATA PROTECTION ACT I CAN,T DO IT. SO DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE TO PAY £17.99 FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE FOR A SERVICE WHICH I DO NOT RECEIVE .SURELY COMMON SENSE MUST PREVAIL
ALSO I CANNNOT CANCEL MY CREDIT CARD BECAUSE IT IS A GUARANTEED PAYMENT PLEASE SOMEONE OUT THERE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON THE NEXT STEP
I HAVE SENT OrangeThree LETTERS EXPLAIANING THIS SITUATION EACH TIME THEY SEND BACK THE SAME REPLY, REF DATA PROTECTION
You say, "THE LINE THAT THE BROADBAND WAS ON HAS NOW BEEN DISCONNECTED". Send them a copy of the BT termination notice which will have your name on, and the telephone number. They should then be able to check with BT when the line was ceased, close the account, and refund any monies owed from when the line was ceased.
Generally if an account is set up for a works colleague, and the address it's set up for is a business address, then sending a business letter heading with your contact details as well as the broadband account details will enable the account to be cancelled.
