I've been trying to help my brother get his BB connected after he's moved house as Orange Customer service is what you all expect!
He's trying to connect through a USB modem and both lights are green, he has not changed any of his settings, has confirmed with Orange that his user name and password are fine, BT have checked the line with no problems found.
He has had no connection for 4 weeks now!
We have tried the following:
1. Set up a manual connection
2. Confirmed both user name and password entered correctly
3 Tried a different USB modem
4. Replaced filters
5. Moved PC so that Modem plugs into main phone socket
He has contacted Orange approx 10 times and gets a different story each time, (BT working on line crap!)
We are having exactly the same problem. My parents were on Broadband through Wannadoo - no problems. My father died, orange said they couldn't change to my mum's name she had to have a new account. We've been trying to get connected now for about 8 weeks. They've sent two modems. Line has been checked, user name password, etc. okay. We get to stage four with the Modem connection via the CD and it freezes - won't go on to stage five. Orange have sent 2 further CD's. No good. Strangely both lights are on on the modem but when I check properties it lists a different modem not a Speedtouch. Error code 0678.
Any advice would be brilliant. I am very tempted to tell mum to go elsewhere as thankfully we are still within the 30 days.

That one is down to the drivers for the modem. Stopping at step 4 is when it tries to automatically detect the modem after it picks up the drivers. If you can try unplugging the modem, uninstalling the software and then using the drivers downloaded from:
http://www.thomson-broadband.c...ductID=471
Just be sure to get the correct ones for the version of windows you're running, probably the 3rd download listed.
Thank you for your help - I have saved the windows driver update to my 'dongle' and will take it round this afternoon to try out. If this doesn't work I think we'll be off to another ISP.
Thanks again
Sorry Elhana, one last question (I hope): do I run this new installation straight away after turning the computer on or do I put the Orange set-up disk in and run this installation when the wizard install bit pops up? (sorry I'm not very computer literate - not sure of the terms!). I'm asking because from the Orange set-up disk in Step 1, etc. it asks for username, password, etc. and if I just run this new download instead how will the link between my mum & Orange be made?
Just run the download after restarting, ignore the CD, they both do the same thing, just one makes it look all orangey.
An extra note you may want to do as well. Before unplugging the modem go into device manager, it's within the hardware tab of the system icon in the control panel. Expand network adapters and if there's a speedtouch listing there right click and select uninstall. If there's any other speedtouch listings in universal serial bus controllers or in a section by itself do the same to them too. Cancel any new hardware popups if it redetects them straight away. This hopefully will clear all trace of the drivers so it installs fresh from the download. After that just do as I mentioned before, uninstall the software itself, reboot and run the download.
0678 - no answer,
0691 - username and/or password incorrect.
When you tried another modem was it another speedtouch, and did you uninstall the old one first?
If you check the properties of the connection make sure it lists the speedtouch modem as the confijured defice.
Done all that, still no good. This is the second time he's moved, 1st time he just plugged in and everything was fine, this time it's a nightmare and he followed the same process.
Hmm does he get any connection at all? I would call the tech team and get them to place a line test because if both lights are solid green this shouldn't be happening, if not double check all details with tech...
You won't be able to access anything on that connection really as it's just there to prove that it works.
If it does connect then try and connect using your details again, if it fails then change the @fs on the end to the each of the following and try again.
