I'm thinking of signing up for the Max offer, but there are a couple things that are not explained in the blurb on their website so I thought I'd ask here. I'm on Banwell exchange which has no LLU.
Just 2 Questions
1 What is the speed/standard of the Livebox ie 'G' 'G+' 'N' 'N1' ?
2 On the landline they offer 'call minder' and 'caller ID' free for the first six months, but what is the cost of these agter the six months is up? I could not do without 'Caller ID'.
The other thing they dont mention in the "blurb", is that your connection will be shaky at best, it will cost a fortune to ring them to sort it out ( which they wont), and that they will fob you off and lie to you at every opportunity.

It's just "G", no fancy extra classification.

That I don't know and can't seem to spot anything about.

Well, very negative replies, but thanks anyway. I'm sure that not all customers are dissatisfied with the service, from the forums it appears to be the customers that are using LLU that have the most problems.
As for Customer Service, most companies struggle to get this right.
A bit disappointing that the Livebox won't offer an upgrade over the equipment I already have, and Orange need to provide some answers to the other question I raised.
Is there an email address at Orange I can try, something like sales@Orange.com that anyone knows about?
Yes there are more problems with LLU, if your exchange hasn't been enabled yet you MAY have a decent connection. However, it will only be a matter of time until you get the dreaded "we're making some changes" email.
If a stable, reliable connection is important to you, the best advice anyone can give you is "Run Forrest, run"!

Well G+ and the other G variants are specific to single companies for the most part and you'd need to go for their equipment to get the best speeds. It's the same with the N devices except a more pronounced effect. N is very new and few if any ISP's supply that sort of equipment, especially considering it's all draft spec so it could end up all N wireless devices in 2 years time don't work with current N stuff.
Not really the sort of stuff you want to supply to everyone just yet.

Just search for anything on their help pages and there will be an email link, at the top I believe.
Dave, I have been a freeserve/wanadoo/orange customer for years and I can honestly say that upgrading to the broadband max package was the WORST decision I've ever made.
Since changing package, I now get slower speeds than I previously had and I'm on the phone every week trying to speak to an Orange employee that actually gives a toss about customer service (might I add, I have not found one yet)
I appreciate this must sound harsh but I'm at my wits end with this pile of garbage I've signed up for. I actually don't care if I don't receive the full 8mb or even 4mb but it infuriates me that at peak times (i.e. the times I use it) I struggle to even rustle up 150Kb !
I urge any potential Orange customers to seek alternative suppliers. You might be lucky and never have any problems but more than likely, you will, and when that day comes, you will find yourself repeatedly pounding your head against a brick wall....
I used to read these forums thinking that people complain far too much, and about anything. I'm now on the other side of the fence making the complaint and for me, thats very rare.

Does anyone know if there is a minimum speed that a 'Braodband' advertised product should be, either in Orange terms+conditions or EU regulation or any other regulatory body? There are always loop holes for stuff maybe that could be a way out off the contract if Orange aren't providing the advertised service, I'm not ready to go this far yet as it's only been 9 working days since I joined but I'll be having a dam good look if it does!
Thanks for your replies - all interesting stuff to think about.
I notice that the BT speedtest quotes speeds that they consider to be 'normal service ranges' so for a 256kb service end users should get between 50 - 250 kbps for 512 kbps you should get 100 - 500 kbps for 1mb you should get 200 - 1000kbps and the last quoted is 2mb which should be 400 - 2000kbps.
My current ISP provider (ezeedsl) provides me with a 512kb service and I rarely get over 200kbps, but that may be due to my distance from the exchange. I know that the best I can hope for is about 4mb from an 8mb service.
I'm still deciding, but I might give Orange a go, I can still opt out in the 30 period.

ADSL Max (over 2000kbps connnections) count as 400+ AFAIK.

Generally if you're not on Max then you'll be on a fixed speed connection, which should be 1/2 in your case. Any less speed than the connection is either down to contention, congestion or potentially any traffic shaping services.
