I've now asked Orange for a MAC code 4 times and have been given 4 pathetic excuses as to why i can't have one.
1.. sorry sir but you need to cancell your account to get a MAC code
2.. sorry sir but you need to pay up your contract and cancell the acount to get a MAC code.
3.. sorry sir but cancellations have closed early and i can't transfer you
4.. sorry sir but my system is down at the moment, phone back later.
So i'm realy pi**ed off at the moment. I'll try again this afternoon. It's looking like a complaint to ofcom. Thankfully my contract is nearly at an end and at just £5 a month i realy don't care if i have to pay it off now.
yes all indian call centers. I've had a look at the ofcom site and i'm not sure how to make a complaint. Can anyone guide me to the right form. ah found the right bit but the link isn't working.
Mention Ofcom and the ISPA next time you ask, they are blatently breaking the law.
They've had 4 chances to comply with GC22, how many more do they need ?
Even if "the system is down" or "cancellations have closed", all they should do is to take the details and process it as soon as possible.
GC22 is specific :-
"5. The LSP must specify how customers can contact it to request a MAC (to include phone, email and letter as a minimum). If the customer contacts the LSP in an approved way, the LSP must respond in writing (letter or email) with the MAC, or reason for its non-issue, within 5 working days of receipt of the customer’s request.
If a MAC is issued, its validity period will start on the date of despatch of the written migration authorisation. Except that, if the customer contacts the LSP by phone, the MAC may be issued immediately, in which case the validity period starts at the time it is issued, and the LSP is not obliged to provide additional written confirmation.
The LSP must remind the customer of the MAC if requested by the customer."
Nowhere does it allow for an operational excuse such as system down.

At last there might be light at the end of the tunnel. I've tried twice more and the second time i was finally put through to cancellations. After a guy tried to lie ooops sorry explian why my connections have been so eratic over the last year(line repairs, software upgrades ect) and try to convince me that all of a sudden everything would suddenly work properly if i would stay with Orange, i got him to say he would e-mail me a MAC code. Do i believe him? not realy but hopefuly within 5 days i can start preparing a very happy leaving party.
All i need to do now is chose who to go with. Quite a lottery realy especially with most isp having a 12month contract. Although i'm pretty sure it will be either Sky or be. But i'm a little put of with be because of the o2 (now Sky) take over, so Sky is looking like the obvious choice as i already have Sky tv and i can get 16meg unlimited for £10.

I'm moving to Sky myself, activation on monday. I'll let you know what the service is like, cant be any worse than Orange though!
I moved to Sky today, as of 2 pm this afternoon I am receiving an 8 meg connection compared to the 1 - 2 meg connection I was getting from Orange. I am also 'unlimited' (not Orange unlimited i.e - limited!!) and paying £8 less a month.
Long may it continue!!
Good luck with the move, hopefully Orange will go bust if more of us do the same
