I have got an Orange Livebox, and am trying to use an 802.11b Actiontec Wireless USB Adaptor (802UAT1) to connect to it.
I have plugged it in and installed the drivers, and all seems fine. I am given a list of Three Wireless Access Points in range; my livebox, another network called "chernery" and one called "linksys".
I can talk to the linksys network (although it asks me for a WEP key I do not have, and wouldn't use if I did have), but when I click on the chernery or livebox network I am told (after a pause) that I cannot connect; check it is in range. It definately is; 5 bars.
My question is: why? The only answer I can think of is that the two I cannot connect to are 802.11g, and the linksys is 802.11b. But supposedly the livebox is compatible with both.
Note: I get the same thing on Three other computers I have tried it with. Nothing is blocking it in any way.
It's probably picking it up as WPA security, or the dual security is confusing it. You could change the livebox to be WEP only, although you may need to setup any other wireless connections again if you do.
you wont need to reset the connections changing it back to WEP as thats the standard connection for XP just disconnect and reconnect the connections dont bother to recreate the connection
