Hi all, found the site last night and to be honest I must be lucky because in general my Livebox works fine, touch wood, and has done for a couple of years. I almost feel honoured!
The only fly in my ointment is that we get terrible interference on VHF radios throughout, and outside, the house. Does anyone else get this?
I've been through the endless phone calls where they start at page 1 on the script and creep through only to find they have proved what I already know, the Livebox is working fine as a Livebox, just can't listen to the radio. Then its "well, your Livebox works sir so we can't replace it". I even played a radio to one guy, turning the Livebox on and off so he could hear the problem - that didn't help as he didn't have a box or script to match it!
For the techies with advice on fixing it: I've reset'd endlessly, tried all the channels, no its not the laptop, its only a problem when the Livebox is on, same on battery or mains radios, it gives "bands" of interference as you tune over the FM spectrum, affects radios near or far throughout our 3 storey house with thick stone walls, including in the stone built shed in the yard and even the radio in my car out in the road! It didn't use to be a problem when I first had the Livebox, has become more noticeable over the last months.
If this is a common problem then I'll give up and go elsewhere for my router/ISP but if not I'll keep trying to get the box swapped so your answers would be very helpful.
Did you know there are more Giant Pandas than Exmoor Ponies?

Try changing to a different channel in the Livebox look at article kb216 on how to change it on their support pages, the link is too long it wont let me post it.
Good Luck

Hi Steve
Thanks for that but I've done that and it made no difference, maybe that's the problem, it only says it has changed channels and hasn't!!?
From the lack of a deluge of "Me to" postings I'm guessing that mine is indeed a one-off. Have tried a letter to Orange now, shame about the pesky Postal strike...
Did you know that Exmoor ponies are so hard that they don't bother wasting any bodyheat on melting snow that settles on their backs? They just ignore it, carry on eating and maybe shake it off!

Hi Ropeman
Is it not saving it? ive never used a livebox so im sure someone (Elhana keith, nhyder) on here will put you right with that.
Did you try all the channels? with me whatever router i use channel 6 is best for me, it does seem that its the channel your using thats causing your problem.

It did say on screen that the channel had been changed but it made absolutely zero difference to the amount of or location of the bands of interference we can hear. I did think that was surprising. Maybe there is a way of checking the channel from the received end at the laptop, anyone any ideas on that?

Perhaps your radio is too near the livebox you could try relocating either of them, or it could even be a neighbours router doing it.
If i click on view wireless networks i can sometimes see up to 8 other networks (i'm in a block of flats) depends on the time of day.

Hi Steve
Without wanting to be at all rude if you re-read my original post, I know its long, you'll see the radio being too close is not the issue and the problem is EXACTLY conincident with my livebox being turned on or off.

Ok (sorry bout that) distance ruled out the only thing i personally think it can be is the channel, the most common channels routers default on depending on make is normally channel 1 3 and 11 as i said mine works on channel 6 the best channel 3 interferes with my dect phone. Try also posting on thinkbroadand in the DSL Hardware and the Home Networking forums and on DSLZoneUK in similar forums, i'm sure someone will have other theorys and a solution.

There is one thing I can suggest to see if you can pinpoint the problem down a little more.
Go into the livebox config and on the channel page untick the Enable Wireless LAN box. Make sure to do this over a wired connection! The antenna light should go off to show the wireless is then off.
If the radio interference goes then it's down to the wireless connection on the livebox, as it then clearly is interfereing outside it's normal spectrum it is faulty but you'll need to get someone at Orange to understand that, asking to speak to a manager or escalations may help if it turns out to be the wireless.
Good news! Orange have contacted me and are replacing my Livebox, hurrah!
It seems a good old fashioned letter to Customer Services in Rotherham is effective, they rang me the day it arrived, apologised and are giving me 2 months rental back plus the new Livebox. You can't ask for more than that.
Their address is
Orange Customer Care
Orange Uk Plc
PO Box 486
ROTHERHAM
S63 5ZX
When it arrives I may well be channel hopping so thanks for the tips Steve and also your suggestions Elhana. I just hope it does cure the problem...
