Rang Orange, who are still insisting their LLU MAC code cannot be used with BT...
Any ISP that states another ISP will not accept a MAC to move from LLU to IPStream is clearly in the wrong. Here are the relevant Ofcom regs that covers migrations from LLU (SMPF) to BT's IPStream:
Other process developments
3.26 On 22 November 2006 BT announced the launch of a new process called “provide
with MAC” which will support “reverse” migrations from SMPF to
IPStream/DataStream. BT has stated that “provide with MAC” will be available to all
customers to use from 21 December 2006.
3.28 As set out in paragraph 5.41, General Condition 22 will require broadband service
providers (and wholesale broadband providers) to use the MAC process for migrations from SMPF to IPStream and DataStream once “provide with MAC” is fully
available.

Remind them a contract works BOTHways and includes a broadband service which they are not providing and still want the money for it report them to Ofcom and the ISPA.

Just a quick warning, despite the new regulations of 14 February 2007 concerning the availability of MAC Codes Orange informed me "it is not Orange's policy to supply MAC Codes".
Interestingly if you cancel without realising you were being misled like I did Orange will request you have to restart your cancellation from scratch again in order to obtain the MAC code!

It may not be their policy but it is a legal requirement. Anyone getting such a response should phone ofcom and speak directly to an advisor.

They didn't email my MAC code - so I phoned them up and was quite aggressive i.e. quoting the recent radio 4 'you and yours' programme and ofwat (sic) etc ....they gave me the code over the 'phone.
BT are fantastic - it only took six days to switchover and my speed has more than doubled
Here's an interesting scenario.
I am about to move house, and am out of contract now with Orange. My wife wants us to move to BT - and ultimately, since they control the wires, it will be (arguably) easier to get a line fixed, since fault calls with lines have to go through BT anyway.
I ring Orange, they provide the MAC code over the phone, but say it *cannot* be used with BT because of LLU? - Is this right? - surely not?
Regards
Pas
Rang BT "yes, we'll take your LLU MAC code, no problem"
Rang Orange, who are still insisting their LLU MAC code cannot be used with BT...
Mac code promised - we shall see what happens...
Orange also told me that a MAC code wouldn't work with BT because of LLU issues or rather - BT were not accepting new customers who had LLU... Complete nonsense... In this scenario it does take a little longer to switch over - I suspect it's a spoiling tactic from Orange who are haemorraging customers to BT...
Incidentally, even though I was told by Orange that BT would not accept me, Orange did email me a MAC code - 2 hours later!!!
Hi everyone, i'm new here!
Orange are currently threatening me with legal acton over £8 that i am refusing to pay as they tell me that my 30 days notice only started on the day BT contacted them to say that i was now there customer, not on the day i requested a MAC code and gave them notice that i was changing isp and cancelling my contract. Can this be right?
I know it's only £8 but it is the principle of the thing isn't it?
i feel like they are trying to swindle me aout of another £8 when i already spent months paying for a service which they only provided sporadically.
Any help would be appreciated,
Emmie
With all due respect to all members I hope you can help me.
On the 10th of September 2007, Orange contcted me on availabilty of my connection etc etc.
My reply to them was ."unhappy @ the slowness of my connection" due to being told way back in the freeserve days , upgrades would be automatic.....speedwise anyway....
However today i find that after being contacted by Orange, my "Unlimited" package has een reduced to a "Starter package", even after being with them for almost 6 yrs now.
Anyways cutting a long story short, 10th Sept 2007 contacted by them... they said...speed would be increased, costs reduced...
Today I contacted asking them about my speed incfrease and was informed that i was now on a "home starter package" and set at 1mb end of story..!!!!
When i informed them this is not what i wanted nor signed upto, being told it would not affect my contract, they said... sorry thats what your on ... take it or leave it.... I then asked for a MAC and the phone was slammed down. NO MAC CODE NO NOTHING..... I am just so glad i had recorded this conversation. I am now at my wits end as to progressing further and to getting away from Orange. Thank you to all, in anticipation of a speedy answer to this prolem

Recording I believe calls is legal but there has to be informed consent. They inform you as a recorded message and by continuing you effectively give consent. Internal policy is if told a call is being recorded then you don't give consent. The consent effectively allows you to provide that recording to someone else.
I'm not a lawyer though so be careful and if you want to make sure then check for yourself or ask a real lawyer.
