If the line is now ok - it should sort itself out.
If the router kept re-booting that is reason for low speed.
Keith
Yeah, tis true, the speed did improve, got up as far as 2.5 mbps.
But now, check out my stats. Back up to dialup speed...
ORANGE?!?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?????
Does anyone esle get this: when you phone up asking why it's so slow, they always forward you on to the same inline help sheet, which basically says 'turn off other broadband using appliances, and your speed will increase!'
Chix, that's more likely to be ADSL Max profile related than actually down to Orange. Run a BT speedtest, if your IP Profile shows as low and the downstream rate (not the speed result) shows high then it should sort itself out within 3 days.
Need anymore help just post a new thread with the details and we'll see what it's showing.

Hello Chix,
Thank you for your email.
We understand the situation you are in.
As per our record your line is upgraded from LLU network to BT Ipstream
network. Your line is now provisioned on BT Ipstream with a speed of 0.5
meg. This is the maximum speed your line can support.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.
Kind Regards,

Upgrade?????? what on earth do I do now, take it out on BT? They don't even offer me a solution, it's as if they think I'll be satisfied with this wonderful news!?!?!?
Do what sorry? Anything, I'll do anything if it'll help...
First run a BT Speedtest and note down all the figures.
Next you need the details from your router. For the livebox do the following:
Browse to 192.168.1.1 in internet explorer,
Click the link,
Enter "admin" as the username and password as needed and ok it,
Click System Information on the left,
Copy the ADSL section from the ADSL Firmware bit down to include the upstream and downstream rates,
Paste the details here but be sure your username and WAN IP aren't included.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 576 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 418 kbps
If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.
If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.
Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

Purely from that result there's no problem, it's running at 0.5 meg as it's connected to the exchange at barely more than that.
If it was previously working fine at 2.5 meg then something is definitely wrong with your line somewhere. You should try the test socket in your main phone socket if possible. After that it could be a line problem and you'd need Orange to put through a line test.

But they've DONE all that. They replaced the line to the exchange, and then it all started working quickly again, up to 3meg. It was only when they 'upgraded me' things went bad, I emailed them and got this reply:

So they're not going to help, BT aren't going to help, WHO CAN HELP????
Well you're on ADSL Max and it's not capped because AFAIK Max capped lines have their upload capped at 288, which your's is above. It's purely a case of it running at the best it can or there being a problem.
It will be an issue with one of Three things.
1. Equipment at the exchange.
2. The line itself.
3. The livebox.
The first 2 are dealt with by BTW through Orange. You can only really go to BT directly if there's a problem with the phone, otherwise they'll refer to Orange.
There is another issue though. When you were changed to ADSL Max you go through a 10 day period so the MSR for the line can be set. If your sync speed dropped to it's current levels during this time then it will be refected in the MSR which effectively means you have to get less than a 1/2 meg connection for BTW to look investigate properly.
All I can suggest really is try another modem/router and if you've tried from the test socket is to have Orange do a line test, if it that returns as no fault then you're somewhat stuck.
Chix, all the speedtest.net results you've posted are dated 24/9/2007 at 10.45am, can you run a new one with a direct plug into the main BT linebox with nothing else plugged in....not even in any extension boxes....I know you may have done this already but this thread was combined with another wasn't it.
