I copied this below of the Orange website and it says they will give the MAC code if contacted by email, now I thought I read you had to phone for it, my question is has any one requested the MAC by email and did you get it?

how do I transfer my broadband service to another ISP?
Article ID: kb732
We don't want to see you leave, but if you do decide to change broadband provider we can help to make the move go smoothly. It's really simple:
* get in touch with us by phone, email (by clicking on the 'email us' button at the bottom of this page) or letter
* we'll arrange for a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code) to be sent to you
within 5 working days
* give the MAC to the broadband provider you'd like to move to
* wait for your broadband service to switch over with minimal downtime

and another question:
I know I am on LLU but I thought I also read that lines on LLU are not subject to OFCOM's regulations. So do Orange still have to supply me with the MAC in 5 days?
Thanks Brian
But that is typical of Orange, the right and left hand doesn't understand what the brain is instructing therefore the person who wrote kb732 got it wrong and, more importantly, nobody checked it.
If you read down to "How do I get hold of a MAC?" it's clearly contradictory :
"If you'd like to migrate your service to another provider, just give us a call on 0870 010 2462* (or 0870 1900 672* if you’re on our Broadband Starter package). You can also write to us at the following address:
Orange Customer Care
PO Box 486
Rotherham
S63 5ZX"
LLU won't affect you getting your MAC code - Orange have to give you it by law within 5 working days.
Many ISP s accept LLU MAC codes including Be, Idnet, BT etc.
Orange will probably tell you that noone will take your code - don;t listen to them just their usual lies desperately trying to keep customers.
Well I've sent Orange an email requesting my MAC and quoting their website (as per my original post) also mentioned Ofcom's ruling....... so will see what happens
Well exactly 5 working days later I have received my MAC code and by a polite email advising me to use it within the 30 days, I never picked up the phone as I dont need the hassles some people seem to have.
When I emailed I said I knew all about the the law regarding MAC codes and mentioning Ofcom and the ISPA ........so far so good
I just want to check with you guys how many digits the MAC should have, as it is a LLU line it starts with LL which I know is correct.
Next I am considering IDNET or ADSL24 (recommendations accepted) for my next ISP as I only want to take it month to month.
My question is as most of the time I use a Netgear wireless router with my laptop, will this be compatable with their systems? I also have a couple of Thomson Speed Touch 330 modems which I use with the P.C. ....will these work or will I have to get another modem?
This is a great site as I have learned so much and am sure I would never have got my MAC so easy without it.....thanks guys.

You can carry on using ur Netgear when you change your provider all you need to do is go into the Netgear config pages basic settings page and put your new ADSL username and password in.
IDNet is a good choice i was with them excellent support and free give them a ring, ADSL24 has a good reputation too you cant go wrong with either.
Good Luck.

Somewhat bizarrely I received my MAC code after 2 hours... BT seem to have accepted it so hopefully Orange are getting the message and not holding on to MAC codes...
However Orange did tell me that BT would not accept my code as it would involve a LLU switch... complete nonsense...
Last Sunday I rang up Orange to ask for my MAC code.
After about 10 minutes of listening to some foreign accent which I could barely understand at all, I was finally put through to an actual British person (No offense to all you foreign people out there, but it really does get annoying when you pay for service via phone and get gobbledygook in return).
He said that my MAC code would be received via email in 5 working days.
However, this hasn't happened so far.
I'm just wondering what I should do next...
I was thinking of emailing Orange, but I wouldn't know what to say to get them to give it to me because I know they don't want people changing services.
So yeah, if anyone can advise me on what to do next that would be great.
Thanks.

If its been more than 5 working days since you requested your MAC fill in an ISPA complaint form Here explain that you havn't recieved it, Orange have to provide you with one within 5 days.
