If you are exceeding your usage allowance, try the following:
Stop downloading illegally ie. Movies, Games, Music, Software etc. through P2P and torrent websites.
Hope this works.

Yeah, because the only reason we go over is illegal downloading
I should stop my playing of bought online games, downloads from itunes and shows from 4OD should i then? i should really just turn the computer off and never use it...but continue to pay for oranges shoddy service anyway
Steam
iTunes
4OD
BBC iPlayer
'Rental' services (downloading movies and such)
AWOMO (new service coming out apparently similar to steam, I'm in its beta so yeh, drains bandwidth well)
Xbox Live / Marketplace
Demos (fine in the old days, but when demos can often be over 1gb in size...)
Streaming video (game trailers, bah, even adverts now are including video in them)
Internet Radio
MMOs (not playing the game so much, as the huuuuge patches)
Free software (linux, open office, etc)
Development situations (keeping larger websites up to date often drain, as things like galleries often have to be moderated, then theres SVN repositories for open source projects, etc)
Theres lots which can drain bandwidth. Sure, illegal downloading can drain a lot, but theres plenty of legal stuff as well. And, it'll only get worse, more and more things are getting online services.
