I had terrible problems with Orange back in May, with my Broadband being down for a month.
Anyway to cut a long story short a guy from Orange sent my Dr TCP and told me to use 1492.
Hey preso it worked. I did the same on the kids pcs and the PSP and got them all working.
I bought a new laptop at the weekend with Vista.
The internet does not work (Can get Google about all, just as before)
Used Dr TCP with 1492 with no luck.
Have been through the pages on here on MTU's trying everyone, with no luck.
Any thoughts please
Thanks

Been doing some more investigation last night and not so sure its the MTU.
I plugged the cable from the router that normally goes to to my PC into the laptop and everything works fine.
So it would appear to be a fault with the wireless connection.
I found an article last night that said Orange had not yet sorted out the whole Vista thing.
Does anyone know if this is the case?
Is there a driver I can down load to sort this out?
Thanks as always for your time and comments.
Thanks Keith,
I understand that Dr TCP does not work on Vista.
Indeed I have read that Vista calculates it itself.
Back in May when my PC which was running on the ethernet, showed the same symtoms, and I had to use Dr TCP to change the MTU. Using this cable last night I got the Laptop to work correctly. So I suspect if it was an MTU problem this would have not worked. (This may of course be flawed logic)

This is on dslreports
"WINDOWS VISTA USERS: Vista TCP tuning (tweaking) is NOT advisable. The Vista TCP stack does a reasonable job of tuning the receive window dynamically, there are no known registry tweaks that would optimize Vista better than its default configuration."
As nhyder says there is posts on it on here about Vista but can't find where it is.

PLEEEEEASE
Any other ideas.
At the mo Sky broadband looks pretty good
Thank ypu all for your help
Never did get it going.
Decided to tryt Sky.
Just connected it in 5 mins in my lunch hour.
Everything works including the wireless laptop.
My advice is ditch Orange as soon as you can
If you have Vista and can't access certain sites etc. you need to change your MTU setting. DrTCP does not work in Vista so you have to change the MTU from command prompt with administrator privileges.
Command prompt can be found under Start>Accessories>Command Prompt
(right-click on the command prompt and select 'run as administator')
now you need to view your MTU settings type and the name of your interfaces to do this type:
netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces
Once you have seen the interface and MTU setting you wish to change type the following:
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "name of interface" mtu=NEW MTU NUMBER store=persistent
For example to set the MTU to 1430 for my interface called Local Area Network I would type:
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Network" mtu=1430 store=persistent
Once this is done, restart your laptop, connect to your wireless and hey presto. Done.
Ryder
UPDATE: Corrected my spelling mistake for 'persistent' in the commands above.
If you are using your wireless connection, replace ''local area network'' with ''wireless network connection''
Hope this helps,
Ryder
