I have been having the dreaded PPP server problems for the last couple of weeks and have been doing my homework on forums. This one seems the best so gonna ask a question here.
When I spoke to Orange CS today I mentioned being migrated to a LLU server and the guy said that according to his records I was still on ADSLMax. I checked my exchange info (chafford Exchange) and it says my exchange hasnt been set up for LLU with Orange yet (but I gather this isnt always correct???) I also had a look at my livebox info and saw my upload rate had changed from 448kbps to 288kbps and wondered if this was a sure sign I HAD been migrated to a LLU Server? I have about 10 days left before I hit the 30day benchmark so am going to request my MAC on monday so I have it ready for the 30days and hope this might also shed some light on weather I have been migrated.(if its a LLU MAC)
Any help or advice from someone on here would be much appreciated. Is there any way to find out for sure if I have been moved and this is what has caused my PPP Prob?
Thought so. So does this mean I will have a problem migrating, or atleast incur a cost for doing so with my new ISP?
If Im on a LLU does this mean my ADSLMax line will no longer be tagged?
Sorry for all the questions but just want away from Orange ASAP now so want the best way to migrate. weather to use the MAC or go through cancellation route. (only got 10 days till C day).
crewz:
It's your BT line that's tagged - there's no such thing as a ADSLMax line or an LLU line. Generally there is a cost to migrate from LLU to ADSLMax. Some ISP's will absorb this cost themselves, or some will pass it on to you
cool, thanks guys. gleened a bit more of an understanding of things now.
Requested my MAC on sat so SHOULD be here by the end of the week, then gonna give adsl24 a try. If I dont like, no contract so will just cancell and try something else. Just a bit sucky if I have to pay for the migrate from LLU to ADSLMax as I didnt request to go onto that system, thats why I was considering telling Orange to go whistle monday then wait for the tag to come off and join someone else, but will still pick up a conection fee with 24 that way. So whatever happens Orange BB have stitched me up big time. But cost is becomming erelevant if it means getting away from them!!!
Once again, thanks for your words of wisdom.
BT charge for new connections. A move from IPStream to LLU or vice versa means one connection type is terminated and a new connection is made on the other, generating a new connection charge.
Also as most LLU is specific to an ISP (Tiscali being an exception I believe as they do offer wholesale to other ISPs) moving LLU to LLU again terminates one connection and a new LLU connection is made so again generates a new connection fee.
Only migrations from IPStream to IPStream are currently pretty much cost free. Either way it's down to the individual ISP if they chose to charge the fee to customers, charge them if they leave within a certain time or absorb some/all of the cost themselves.
if things stay as they are, i think I will be going with either BE or IDNet
I am sort of put off by entanet resellers at the moment after what happened to Ace Internet

I would confidently recommend IDNet to anyone if you want just broadband i was with them for 6 months i migrated to them from Orange, since i left they now include some extras their support is excellent for instance when i requested a MAC they emailed it within an hour wishing me well with my new provider and to use my IDNet email addresses for as long as i needed them which i still use , i only left because i wanted a faster upload speed which Bethere offered.
