I have just received a letter today saying that Anytime is closing in December and that I'm being moved to Broadband. I have to call Orange within 14 days to say that I agree with them doing this - I'm guessing I also have to call them if I don't want the service either?
I don't want Broadband with Orange, so I'll refuse the offer, but if Anytime is closing in December, then what do I do with regards to moving to another ISP that provides an Anytime dial up service? Do I tell Orange I want my account with them cancelled and get a new ISP or what? I don't want to move to another ISP and be paying out money each month to Orange when I'm not using their service and I know the line can be tagged by them to stop you going to other ISPs, so how do I prevent that? Please help someone I really don't particularly want to end up on Broadband and having the problems that many others have had!
I believe line tags relate to broadband only so if you haven't got broadband now then your line won't have a marker on it. Also if they do move you to a broadband service I guess it'll be a new 18 month contract !!! Freeola, PlusNet and Waitrose amongst others offer Anytime dial up
Wow! Thank you for that fast response So...I guess it's advisable to get another dial up ISP now before I say I want my account ended with Orange then? I have heard they can force a line tag on to people without them knowing to stop them moving ISPs, unless I'm mistaken. Are those 3 companies nice and reliable? I just want some ISPs recommended based on personal experience.
Line tagging is for broadband only. Even if your line was tagged it wouldn't stop you using a different dialup ISP or even several, it just means they try to move you to broadband.
If you don't want broadband then the best option is to find a new dialup ISP and setup an account with them. Once it's running cancel your Orange account and just use the new one.
Thanks for that Elhana. That's probably what I'll do when I call them - just tell them to cancel my account and forget going to broadband lol. There won't be a cancellation fee will there? Anyone know if they'll cancel my account straight away after I've told them to do so? My monthly payment goes out next Monday I've just realised...
Zen are excellent I think they do dial up too otherwise they have 2 £17.99 a month packages to choose from.I left Orange on july 16th I had no downtime that I noticed and I have been connected ever since bar my router deciding to shut down once.In fact I know they do dial up as you can use theirs if the broadband ever goes down.

If you cancel your account then it should cancel pretty much immediately. Anytime's on a rolling monthly contract so all that happens is you don't make anymore payments and it just ends at that point.

Thanks for that I've gone with Tesco's Anytime package now, so I'll call Orange on the number given in the letter I received and ask them to cancel it tomorrow and refuse the broadband offer at the same time.
Ok, I've just attempted calling Orange on the number on the letter, 0800 294 7338, and I'm put in a queue automatically I really do want to get this sorted today, but I don't want to be sitting on the phone for goodness knows how long waiting to be answered! Can I write to Orange to tell them I don't want the offer and then have another phone number to call to get my account cancelled? HELP SOMEONE!
It's far better to write (and keep a copy), send it recorded delivery then you have proof that you have cancelled and on what date.
The letter should clearly state that you do not accept their offer of moving to a broadband service and that you are cancelling the Anytime service.
Oops. Too late. I called the dial up support line just a moment ago (was answered rather quickly AND by people who were English lol!) and was put through to the cancellation team and was told my account would close up on October 21st. Seems the account will remain open for the next 30 days, so I obviously had to give notice. I'll send a letter anyway, just to be sure
Oooo. Just thought of something else I wanted to ask. Do I have to contact the bank to cancel the direct debit with Orange, just in case they still want to take money out after October 21st?
