when i first got broadband last year some time, i received the speeds i should have got, which is 8mb. then it all went downhill from there, within weeks it dropped to a measly 400kbps MAXIMUM, and has been for many months now..
ive tried calling the rubbish tech support only to be hung up upon and passed through the whole team as they cant understand my accent. ive requested numerous line tests which have all came back clear, both from Orange and BT.
i finally managed to get an open-reach engineer out who said there was a problem on the line, which was resulting in my slow speeds and noisy-crackly-sounds on my landline, so the line from my house to the pole outside got replaced.
my crackly line has now (semi)dissapeared although my speeds are still 400kbs and BT have set my profile to 576kbps, probubly because of the slow speeds they thought i couldnt handle 8mb and reduced it.
i have tried to ask Orange to contact open-reach on my behalf to reset my profile so my speeds can once again improve, but they just wont listen.. what can i do? !
here is some settings and info from my router;
Quote:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 576 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 47.0 db 27.5 db
Noise Margin 27.9 db 18.0 db
Interleave shouldn't really matter. Those line stats clearly show the line's been set at a fixed speed of 1/2 a meg. The high margin shows there's a much higher potential speed, which you had previously. It's just a matter of getting Orange to get BT to sort it out.
i cannot get it accross to Orange tech support nor customer services as they simply use their "scripted troubleshooter" asking me what windows version I use etc etc *ARGH*
any other suggestions on getting Orange to contact BT?

Can't you ask them straight out - "Please contact BT on my behalf" ?
Mind you, the person on the other end might just reply "Computer says 'No'..."
