Had an interesting conversation with a rather senior techie guy at Orange today. The thrust of the conversation was as follows:
1) There is a massive issue with LLU (and don't we know it) - orange have no true clue of the scale (something to do with logging equipment I didn't quite understand) but it's being getting progressive worse over the last eight weeks.
2) There have no real clue what the problem is so they have no idea how to resolve it. All the line test stuff is bunk because they have no idea what they are looking for.
3) When you get the PPP server down issue, while they can generally fix it in about 5 days (or generally more) but it's a workaround fix which in many cases fails again within a couple of months (as happened to me after 4 weeks).
So basically don't worry about being in the dark because it seems that Orange is just the same!
Had A similar conversation around Three days ago!!!!! it was actually the first time someone from tech help had said it could be their problem to me.. mind you customer services tend to shy away from the explanation given by the tech department
Unless it's from CAT or Escalations then I'd be very sceptical over those comments as the normal tech staff have very little, if any, direct contact with the people who deal with LLU.

Sorry I should have been clear about this - this is not a phone conversation, this was with a senior member of staff at an event I was attending, this was a face to face conversation - this is a guy high up in the organisation rather than a scriptmonkey.

That probably explains why 99% of people that migrate elsewhere never have problems again including myself, it does make you wonder why a company which are having such problems with their network have the front to offer the PC World deals etc knowing this mind you it does explain why they have probably lengthened their contracts to 18 and 24 months.

Like Stevelondon says - 99% of the people who leave Orange never get problems again with a real ISP.
There are some fantastic companies out there who really can provide, like Idnet & Be Broadband for examples.
They care about their customers, provide a great stable service and speak English on the phone.
This has never happened with Orange broadband.
I was one of the many customers who experienced the transition from Freeserve then Wanadoo to the nightmare Orange.
When it was the first 2 companies I never had a problem getting connections sorted.
