I realise that everyone will have their different views on here. And believe me i do sympathise with some people who have lost their accs, but it does say in the t & c that that would happen and obviously that has happened.
Believe it or not Orange have got thousands of cmrs left and 40% are on dialup as in most places cant still get bb. I have got Orange bb and have had no problems yet, i think that is because i do not mess with it i do what it is meant to do and thats that.
As for Debbiec she is entitled to say what she like but all this about legal proceedings like i mentioned before good luck will need it. All the emails sent to Olaf you all really think that he will be able to do anything different if the call centre staff could enable your emails agin they would and mine would also be working with all my friend who moved away use however they cant and that is our fault not theirs. At end of day they wouldnt sit and listen to us having a go at them if they could solve it and thats that!!
I too have had my email account deleted without any notification or warning that the account would be deleted after being deactivated. This has happened before several times since moving to France and since which time I dial up using Wanadoo, a 7 year old contact base has apparently been lost, I have just recently spent about 3k on literature, dvd's promoting my fishery business and of course stationery, this cannot be right, can it?? They are supposed to be phoning me back in 48 hours (max) only 18 to go now though, to see if the problem can be resolved, if it isn't I will commence legal proceedings (after reading all the small print again), slightly reassuring to know that I am not the only person being targetted! Honeybee, just re-read your last comment, the people in customer relations probably have no idea at all about how their system works, I am just a simple accountant with a fair knowledge of computers and in my opinion the reinstatement of email addresses is not a problem, unfortunately the people taking our calls are unable to deal with them and the technical support service staff are far too busy disconnecting accounts to try and make the company more income, makes sense to me!!!!!

Well said Davew
I completely understand the frustration with Orange as you describe. I have the feeling that honeytrap person doesn't have any idea what's going on despite all her boring comments..
i don't have any idea? erm excuse me debbiec but what do you know? all you know is that your acc has been deleted and so it should have if you are not paying for it they had every right to take it from you. you talk to any decent solicitor and they will tell you if you have not abided to t & c you have not a leg to stand on.

Olaf has recognises there's a problem or he wouldn't of wrote....

Sorting this out is top a priority for me and we’re doing everything we can to put a technical fix in place so that we can retrieve your email address and all of your emails.
A member of my team will come back to you as soon as possible early next week.
olaf did not write it is an automated email if you look at everybody elses replys. There are hundreds of emails that have been deleted if not over a thousand. Even if you email is retrieved there i sno way your emails will still be in there once they have deleted they have gone. Anyway good luck all

Yes that must be true that it is only the space that looks deleted as I was informed under British Law, electronic data has to be kept for a minimum of one year, starting in 200, though not exactly sure which month. Knowing Orange they may have purged the emails just before this law is due to come into effect. Hopefully NOT. Check it out on google, under Computer Law Data Retention as there is conflicting info about the dates it comes into force.

Don't think they would be able to delete all the data as there are ongoing criminal case/trials where some of the data would be used as evidence, so I think they must keep it for a certain amount of time...
Just found this...
Looks like they are trying to beat the 1st October Implementation date...

Just read that link quickly...yes bad news...but still doesn't necessarily mean they have deleted everything, especially, as you say they may keep it for criminal cases etc...From what the Orange technical people have written earlier in the threads, I'm sure the emails are there, but they just won't get them but because they believe the deletion was lawful under their T&C's they do not want the hassle of retrieving them unless they absolutely have to. Hope Olaf will come up with something better.
I'm afraid I'm another of the unfortunate not-so-few who have been caught out and lost emails (at least the last couple months of them) and contacts. Over the last couple of days my feelings about this have ranged from mild irritation to near-apoplexy.
What annoys me most is not the that fact that they have stopped my email account - they are after all a business, if this is a service they do not wish to supply to some people, then it's their right to stop it. It's the underhanded manner in which they went about this which really gets my goat - giving no indication to webmail users that an account has been suspended and is imminent danger of being deleted is really low.
If they had sent me an email saying - 'We see that you have not been using your dial-up account, so next month we will deleting your email account. Please ensure that all your emails are downloaded and your contacts have been informed', then I would have complied, and slowly phased out that email address.
I can't deny there would have been some grumbling about Orange, but after a couple of months this would have been forgotten and I might even have started using some of Orange's products again. Now of course I will avoid Orange products for the rest of time (or at least until encroaching senility causes me to forget all this), and do my utmost to persuade friends and colleagues to do likewise (luckily, working in IT means my opinion tends to be sought in these matters
Now Orange tell us that we were informed that the Terms and Conditions had changed. I admit that I actually downloaded and read the new T&C (OK, I'm a geek), but I'm afraid the changes were too subtle for me (and I think my brain had started turning off after the first 2/3 pages of legalese). I guess I'm used to companies who care about their customers and, when there are changes to the terms and conditions, actually tell their customers what these changes are...
Anyway, that's enough ranting from me for now. Keep up the good fight!
It seems to me that I have opened a can of worms!!!
There seem to be a lot of people that have had similar problems. We where told that we where given notification that the account would be deactivated but did not recieve this email.
Just to keep everyone updated I have contacted OFCOM with this problem that we have experienced seeking advice. The call taker at OFCOM stated he had been on the phone to two people regarding the exact same complaint before my call. We logged the complaint and the following week we recieved a call from Orange who seemed very apologetic. They have stated that they will try to recreate the account and let us have it back. We have also been given two months refund on the broadband service.
I will update everyone when I hear back.
I never expected so many responses!!! Thanks orangeproblems.co.uk and everyone who has posted for making me feel like I am not the only one suffering.

There are two separate problems here I think:
One is people who have had their accounts deleted but are still using Orange for their Broadband and the other is
people who are not using Orange for Broadband but still had their active email account deleted without sufficient notice.
I am concerned that the 2nd group won't get any results from Olaf or Ofcom, even though as Willb describes perfectly above, they have been treated unfairly by not being given any chance to move their data to another site before Orange deleted their emails.
