Another one who's been screwed... no replies from olaf & his cronies except read receipts so they are getting them, just sent an email to get my MAC Code & then I'm off
Following your message about a problem on accessing your email accounts, I asked my team for a thorough analysis of your situation.
It’s common practise that any account which is left unused for a lengthy period of time, will delete itself. With Orange, this comes into play when an account has not been used for 260 days.
Sorting this out is top a priority for me and we’re doing everything we can to put a technical fix in place so that we can retrieve your email address and all of your emails.
A member of my team will come back to you as soon as possible early next week.
OK, for those in contact with Olaf, a couple of points to raise:
1. The FAQ about the increase in dial up charges says
"I only use this for email what does this mean for me? If you’re only dialling into the service to check emails then you’re not spending much time logged on to the Internet – so you’ll see a minimal increase in your bill. If you don't dial into the service and only check your emails via our Webmail service then you won't see any changes. " (my bold)
and also "Don't forget if you haven't dialled into your account for some time, to ensure it doesn't become suspended you can retrieve your account online within our Member Centre"
2. It is still possible to sign up for a free webmail account on the Orange web site, whether you have broadband with Orange or not.
So that FAQ doesn't mention deletion of accounts and seems to imply that what was the current situation is carrying on. And what's the diiference between a mail account that's not being accessed via dial-up and only via their webmail service (which is what I do), and a free webmail account?

Yep, got that email from him too. I really hope he can do sth and holding my breath that it won't just be for the current broadband customers but for everyone....

The webmail account is just that, webmail only. The dialup account allows for dialup, email, webspace and access to a few other services Orange provide. Dialup accounts aren't really supposed to be used just for email but they can be.
Also accounts cannot be linked, so dialup accounts can't be linked to the status of a broadband account, they're very much seperated.

so an fsnet.co.uk and an fsmail.net can both be accessed through the Orange homepage(webmail) and that counts as logging in with no fear of reactivation or deletion ?This is just out of interest as i changed isp and went to googlemail when Orange started blocking port 25.

No. Webmail, because it's only webmail uses account login and use in order to keep it active. Dialup accounts require either dialup use or reactivation, email account access and use does not and never has been counted towards keeping the account active.

So what about that sentence in the FAQ - "If you don't dial into the service and only check your emails via our Webmail service then you won't see any changes."?

That is technically true. The changes to the price of dialup access does how change the behaviour of the account, how it suspends and is eventually deteled. If you just use the account for email access you'll still need to retrieve it like you did before or it will eventually expire.

"...does how change..."? does not change? does however change?

When I cancelled my Anytime dial-up account, they converted it to webmail (that was an option they offered me), but retained my fsnet email address. However it has still been deleted even though it is webmail, I access it every day, and even though I receive regular emails to the account.
Basically, they seem to have purged freeserve and fsnet addresses, nothing to do with 260 days not accessing them and the like.
If you have all called Orange Dial-up Supportou up, you would have been told by a friendly poliet CSA the reasons in why your accounts have been deleted. I t has nothing at all to do with wanting to get rid of dial-up as some of you keep mentioning, why would it? 40% of Orange customers are on dialup. They have not done this on purpose, just listen to the agents when they tell you the actual reasons. No matter how much you shout at Orange or email them nothing can be done. As a agent pointed out to me yesterday, they are not a email provided they are a internet provider and like it or not if you are not using their dialup service they can delete your account withour notice. Forget wanadoo and freeserve they no longer exist, if it was not for Orange taking over you would have lost your email with out notice anyway!! As for legal proceedings i would not waste my money nothing will come out of it and if you tell this to Orange they will not be in the slightest bothered why would they? You didnt pay for the service and all this about under the DPA Act it rubbish because they only have to provide you with your personal data such as notes on your accs etc.
when you cancelled your anytime service you will have been told that it would revert to a payg not a webmail, if you have not dialled in, unlucky that is your fault
oh i would also like to point out, the email address belonged to Orange not yourselves it was just on loan to you but beacuse you did not pay for the acc as should have it was repossed! If you all think Orange is that bad you would have changed you email a year ago when they took over, as for business purposes it is common sense to use your own domain.
Careful Honeybee, people with their own opinions aren't made welcome here, as Ive already found out.
For future reference, please agree with the likes of debbiec, she's the one thats always right.
40% of Orange customers are STILL on dial up, is that right??? Mind, it might only equate to 40 people, surely they can't have so many ccustomers left.
