i know i need to get a MAC code off them. how hard is this going to be. do i need to wait for the MAC code before i contact another ISPs
I assume im going to have to pay to end of the month of my current contract and that i will get no refund for the 11 days it has been down.
I noticed that other ISPs require a fee if you move from LLU to ADSL. will this be an ectra fee on top of the original activation fee?
also, what is the essentaial difference bwtween ADSL and LLU> im after reliability rather than mega fast speed. i get about 2.5MBps at the moment which is fine.
anything else i should know!? thanks! i'm assuming this is going to take about a month

You shouldn't be worried about asking for a MAC from Orange after all your the one paying for the service they aren't doing you any favours, you get your MAC then give it to the provider of your choice some charge to migrate from LLU IDNet and a few others do not charge a migration from LLU takes up to 10 days with at the most 4 hours downtime if any, if Orange tell you otherwise they are lying, i moved from Wanadoo/Orange LLU to IDNet august 2006 and IDNET prewarned me that They rarely get a migration in from Orange that is straightforward they was right eventually when it went ahead the downtime i had was literally the time it took me to put in my new username and password,
My migration from IDNet back to LLU with Bethere was free and took 10 days with about 20 minutes downtime.

To answer "what will I expect". When you get through to customer services and ask for it, the first person you speak to (generally a sales advisor I guess) will put you through to someone else (generally an escalations manager I guess). They will chat to you asking you your concerns. You then seem to get transferred back to the original caller, and then they will put you through to the MAC dept who will try to get you to stay by reducing your direct debits.
It took me about 25 mins to get to the point where I was told I would get my MAC
i rang today and was put through to a guy in UK who said i need to give 30 days notice , or can go straight away if my line has been down for 30 consecutive days (only 17 days to go then).
originally he said i had to pick one or the other (ie give my 30 days notice now, or chance it out to see whether i contimue to be down for another 18 days, and therefore leave earlier).
but we came to an agrreement that if even if my line is back by the 10th of next month (when i will have been down for exactly a month) i can still leave if i want.
guy seemed quite straight up, gave me his name and extension. but so paranoid about being lied to by them because of my wxperiences so far.
I am with Idnet who are absolutely fantastic.
They do not charge people coming from LLU, including Orange, to their ADSL service.
Orange often tell people that other ISP s will not accept their MAC code or it will cost them to move.
Personally I believe they do this to desperately try and retain customers.

Did you quote the 5 day malarky to them? I asked for mine by email due to postal strikes, and it arrived in < 48 hrs

ive heard about the five day thing, but not too sure exactly what it means.
does it mean that they are legally obliged to issue a MAC code within 5 days of request?? from what i remember he said that they would issue the MAC code when my notice period is finished (ie 10 Sept)
so does that mean that i could be free within 5 days?
which department did you e-mail? should i be doing this in writing/email rather than just over the phone?
