After 30 odd days without BB, and suffering Wanadoo 'helpdesk', I have a natural suspicion of everything Wanadoo.
I'm wondering how the USB modem works OK, but I haven't been able to get a Speedtouch, or Belkin modem working.
( It all started when I switched the modomm, and couldn't get a connection )
Paranoia suggests they have changed something in their setup so that wireless non-wanadoo modems don't work...
Well, it's Sat night, so have to have something to eat, and settle down behind the soffa to watch Dr. Who
- wonder if I can borrow his sonic screwdriver to fi my modem ???

Sorry for the delay responding. I realised after reading your post that I needed to read all your prev posts to try to figure out what was going on and I never got round to it.
Are you still having problems?
To answer a few of the points in your posts:
If you are actively using your internet connection at the same time as you are using your phone on the same line then you are definitely connected using ADSL.
To ensure you're not using your new USB dial-up modem, disconnect it from the phone line and PC.
You don't need to set up a new account to connect via dial-up - you can use the same username and password as broadband.
If I understand you correctly your first 2 devices used an ethernet (network) connection rather than a USB connection as used by the Speedtouch 330.
The Speedtouch 510 is either an Ethernet ADSL Modem or an ADSL Modem/Router depending on version/configuration.
The Belkin I'm guessing is a Wireless ADSL Modem/Router (You mention wireless above).
The difference is that a USB ADSL Modem is only powered up only when the PC is on and is treated by the Operating System as if it is a dial-up modem. USB ADSL Modems use more of the PC's resources (both electrical power and processing power) than Ethernet Modems/Routers. In general it's better to use Ethernet devices.
If you had problems with the 2 Ethernet devices but not with the USB device, then it could be an issue with your PC's network port or the network cable. It's difficult to say without more info.
I appreciate the time you have taken to read and reply to my problems.
It never occurred to me that the 330 was a 'dialup' modem - I have always used the Ethernet/wireless route. That explains the 330 working, when my stuff doesn't - doh !!!.
I'm trying to get another PC to try, as I don't know enough to find out if it is an ethernet problem on my PC ( anybody know where I could look ? )
- I'll also look into removing/installing the ADSL modem software.
- also don't know if you can just stick another ethernet card into my PC, have to drag it out and look into it.
Finding time to spend on it is the biggest problem just now, as nothing PC related is ever a 5 minute job.

Just to make this clear for anyone else reading the thread: The Speedtouch 330 is an ADSL Modem not a Dial-Up Modem. But once the 330 is synch'ed then you can connect via Windows like you would with a Dial-Up Modem.

Don't do any of this yet. I'm not sure whether by "ADSL Modem" you mean the 330 or the 510. It might be better to refer to your 4 devices as
The 330 software won't interfere with ethernet connections
If the Belkin is a Wireless Access Point rather than a Wireless ADSL Modem/Router then a fault/issue with the 510 might explain your problems. What is the Belkin model/version? Also what version is the 510? If you can answer these questions somebody here should be able to suggest a way forward.

Right, the reason I thought dial-up, is that it (330) is listed as type dial-up in the network connections - yea I know it says USB ADSL in the device name.
I guess I'll redo from scratch again this weekend with the Belkin and/or the 510 (modem only )
Belkin 54g is modem/wireless router.
Logs from both items had 'LCP connection down'

If you can connect to the internet OK via the 330, then everything that Orange are responsible for is working (on your line/account anyway )
I don't know how I should feel about this.....
( Also getting complaints about the telephone extension lead up the stairs etc. )

Sure, I was just clarifying for other people who may have read your post but not the earlier posts in the thread

Good luck. Please let us know how you get on. Probably better to leave wireless out if the equation initially.

And you still had this on both modem/routers after the 330 was working

Maybe I should have added the word "now" somewhere in there
right ( just trying this - too nice a weekend - great weather - 2 day motorbike racing at Castle Coomb - nice evenings with wine & food - who wants to sit in a stuffy room looking at a computer screen getting wound up.... )
ok trying this on another PC - can't webpage to the Belkin modem on 'my' pc, as it immediatley wants to Wanadoo connect through the W USB modem, and I don't know how to get round it.
Belkin modem attached by cable to PC
still no joy - stats from :-
USB 330 ( my PC )
ReceiveAttenuation_dB= 37
ReceiveMargin_dB= 30
RxOutputPower_dBm= 0
SendAttenuation_dB= 19
SendMargin_dB= 27
Belkin ( other PC )
up = 288, down = 1152
Noise Margin up= 28, down = 26
Attenuation up = 37, down = 32
as far as I read in web sites - the figures look OK.
mmm, looks like I need to get the shovel out and keep digging
I have the awfull feeling this is something so &^*&(_& simple...
just an update, my PC is now toast.
Been trying for a while now, but I can't get past the 'safe mode' screen, or recover it - thankfully I always do backups of data - so it could be a while before I'm back to trying things out, as, with perfect timing, it's the 2 busiest weekends of the year coming up for me.
