Right... Over the last couple of weeks (maybe longer) I have noticed an excessive amount of IE7 "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pages when I try to access a site, no particular site.... sometimes Google, sometimes Yahoo, can be any site really.
Question.. How can I diagnose the cause?
Is it the website that's slow responding.
Is it my ISP.
Is it my PC (although I get the same problem with any one of my 3 PCs connected via LAN to my D-Link Router)
Also, what is the significance of the info in the botton lefthand corner of the IE7 page EG: "Waiting for http:\\uk.yahoo.com/..."
I also noticed somewhere on here some advice on 'pinging' IP addresses and sites. Out of curiosity I did this using Google.com and this was the result...
9 times out of 10 I had this....
Pinging google.com [64.233.167.99] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=117ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=115ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=130ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=128ms TTL=245
Ping statistics for 64.233.167.99:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 115ms, Maximum = 130ms, Average = 122ms
Then I may get one or two like this...
Pinging google.com [64.233.167.99] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=119ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=122ms TTL=245
Request timed out.
Reply from 64.233.167.99: bytes=32 time=121ms TTL=245
Ping statistics for 64.233.167.99:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 119ms, Maximum = 122ms, Average = 120ms
And then occassionally.....
C:\Documents and Settings\richard>ping google.com
Ping request could not find host google.com. Please check the name and try again
What does it all mean?
Any help and advice would be appreciated
Thank You
But I am having trouble finding the settings you mentioned.
I went in via Network Connections/Local Area Connection/Properties and on the General Tab there's numerous entries ticked, I highlighted "Internet Protocl (TCP/IP) and clicked Properties... Which gave me a General Tab and an Alternate Configuration Tab.. but nothing that mentioned
"OpenDns servers" or Primary: Secondary : options?
Where am I going wrong please?

First you need to change the DNS to OpenDNS servers addresses in your router then do what the previous poster said in "Internet Protocl (TCP/IP) in the general tab tick "Use the following DNS server address then put in OpenDNS prefered server and alternate server addresses and click ok reboot your PC, if you find it solves your problem do the same procedure on each pc.
