Well I've been a Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange customer for at least the past 6+ years from dial-up to this current "broadband connection". I'll admit that my time has actually been on the whole almost flawless, yeah the dial-up days you lost connection now and then but while using broadband theres been relatively few disconnects or speed problems on the whole.
Now after getting the so called dreaded upgrade letter from Orange while on holiday and since coming back and thinking that I've been sped up from 2Meg t o 8Meg, its been a completely different story.
The speed increase is a joke, it doesn't exist and most times it is slower (on Speedtest) and since 8:00pm tonight I've lost connection 13 times and counting. I don't think I had that many disconnections and downtime in the years previous!
The longest I've been connected is probably half an hour, I'm lucky to last 10 minutes at a time, so its a joke if I want to play any kind of game online or even download or just browse now.
Looks like its time to leave Orange then? I've been thinking of joining Be* for a while (the Sunderland North exchange got updated in May) but I'm unsure if it will turn out the same way, slow connections, random disconnects all the time.
I mean 24Meg unlimited broadband for 25 quid compared to many other companies deals seems a little too good to be true so I'm wondering what other peoples experiences of them are, even better if your on the same exchange as me or maybe point me to a alternative ISP.
One more thing, how long did it take to get your MAC address when you requested it off Orange and can you only phone to get it (will an e-mail do?)

Hi Lynx
Ive been with bethere for the last 6 months and had no problems the connection is the same day or night i was dubious also with going back to LLU after being on Wanadoo LLU but they do seem to know what they are doing go Here fill in whats required to get a rough estimate of what to expect on ADSL2+.
My last speedtest is below.

You won't regret leaving Orange, they are nothing more than a lying disgrace.
Like Steve says, Be are very reliable and I know he's been posting on here since his nightmare days at Orange, just like myself.
I left last September and moved to Idnet - never had 1 disconnection or slow connection in all that time.
Orange always blame the crap service on 'line faults'. Funny when people move to real ISP s these faults disappear instantly!

Thanks, seems like you've got a good speed, whats you're distance from the exchange and line attenuation? I live exactly a mile (1.5km) away from the exchange but the actual line distance is probably at the worst 2km. My line attenuation is 38 dB, which according to that guide can support up to 12Meg, which is alright I suppose but does that checker underestimate your line potential a little? I was reading around and a few other peoples attenuation was about the same and got better speeds.
Don't worry, I don't think I'll be on Orange for much longer, I don't think I could cope with 30, yes 30 disconnections in one night. I gave up counting after midnight after getting so pi**ed off!

Hi
I am next door to the exchange (not a very nice view) and my upload speed is faster than what i got most of the time when i was LLUed when Orange was Wanadoo.
Yes most are underestimated try this graph from unnoficial Be forum, when are u due to be activated?

Alright thanks for your advice, I'll probably be happy if I can get near the 15Mbit mark, its the best I can hope for. I haven't sorted anything officially yet but i'll probably have got round to getting my MAC address by next week sometime and then its a just a matter of waiting to be switched over!
