Hello All,
I have a Livebox Wifi connection to my laptop which works OK. Guests often visit with their laptops and would like to connect to my Livebox via Wifi. So far without success. I have taken security of connection to my Livebox off.
What else can be done please, either with my Livebox or with the guest's laptop?
Hi Johnyb,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. I did not know you could do pairing mode or how to do it. I am a total novice with Livebox. Is it difficult to do?
Kind regards,
Georgebundle
I think the Livebox will stay in pairing mode for around 10 minutes only after pressing the button. I don't know if there is a way of putting it into permanent pairing mode but I'm sure if there is a way someone on here will know how to do it.

I think you're getting confused here. Once the computer has paired with the Livebox, it will then stay connected and can be reconnected at any time without re-entering pairing mode.
Presumably the 10 minute restriction is intended to increase security, and I can see no good reason to extend it; it's extremely simple to initiate, as has already been pointed out.
Incidentally, you stated that you've dropped the security settings on the Livebox - not a good idea, and not necessary for pairing.
Thank you very much for your reply, simondaw. Much appreciated. My issue is not my own computer, it works fine with Livebox. I have visitors who come with laptops and want to connect to the Internet, especially the kids! They will not be happy with a 10 minute pairing. That is why I would like to let them 'pair' for at least 1 hour if possible.
The reason why I switched off security was the same, allowing my guests to connect when they wanted. No-one else is within half a mile to my Livebox who might gain access to it.
Hence my search for an answer.
Kind regards,
Georgebundle
Once the guest computer is connected during the pairing mode you should be able then to connect at any time without going through the same proceedure unless you reset the livebox.Even then you should still connect.

Thank you johnyb for your reply. Will have a go and see what happens. As I allways connect easily, I hope my guests will be able to do it also.

Pairing is controlled through:
Configuration > Advanced > Wireless
But I'd suggest you don't change it and put security on. All you do is when someone who's not connected through that livebox before wants to do so you give them the key from the bottom of the box and press the 1 button.
Once they establish the connection within the pairing time the livebox saves the address of the device so it can connect whenever it wishes (as long as it still has the right key). The PC in question just saves the settings and key and then there should be no need to do anything but tell it to connect, and even that by default sets to automatic so you don't need to.
