OK some advice needed as the Indian Tech Support is doing my head in.
When i signed by life over to Orange i was told i would beable to get 6MB broadband so for a £5 i though it was cheaper than what i paid for my 20MB Virgin connection (Just how wrong was i !!)
Firstly it took them 3 weeks to get my broadband working due to constantly getting PPP server down errors. During this time i noticed in the system configuration the Attainable download rate (kbps) was set to 2MB and they confirmed that they had lowered this whilst the fault was being sorted and would go back up once i was working again.
Well now i have my Orange connection but for the last week i've only been able to get 0.9 MB connection speed. Numerous calls (everyday) to Orange and finally i get told there is an error which is known about but they couldnt say when it would be fixed.
I have been reading through these forums and people talk about being capped so i mention this to the Tech Support guys and keep getting told that the system showed me on a 6MB connection.
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 27.8
Attenuation (dB) : 52.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 5888
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Rate (kbps)
Downstream 1152
Upstream288
Does Downstream rate of 1152 mean i'm capped ?? If so how do i get this changed ??

Not capped as such. You just appear to be on 1meg fixed service. With your attainable download rate of 5888 you should be able to get something in excess of 4meg on a good day. You would need to be on the upto 8meg service to achieve this
The only thing i would add is no matter what time of the day i always get round 980kbps.....even at peak times.
have you tried moving the pc near your master socket some find this helps no end with higher downloads speeds, run a few speed tests using you master phone socket rather than using any extensions, as this can coz low speeds
Ok thanks for the reply.......well i'am on the 8MB service but was told i would get 6MB down my line.
Orange may be saying you're on the 8 meg service but from your stats you are on a fixed 1meg service. If you were on the 8meg service your upstream wiuld be showing 448. 288 is used for fixed 1meg and 2meg services. Its also used for LLU but I doubt your on this as your downstream is bang on a fixed 1meg.
As your on a fixed 1 meg service, the download speeds you are getting are very good.
Just moved Livebox to the mater socket and the livebox config page shows the following
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 29.1
Attenuation (dB) : 52.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 6720
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Rate (kbps) Downstream 1152 Upstream 288
My Attainable now has increased from 5888 to 6720 but i'm still getting 980kbps. My exchange is here > http://www.samknows.com/broadb...de=EMILKES but it says LLU with Orange is unavailable but the same site also says this about Orange and LLU
"Sadly, Orange are the only provider not providing us with information about their LLU roll-out. Whilst this is understandable (because they do not differentiate services or pricing based upon LLU coverage), it hinders customers wishing to make an informed decision about which ISP to use. Note: The Orange date here is known to be out of date! Recent reports suggest there are ~430 Orange LLU exchanges."
So is there anyway of telling if i'm on LLU ?
But back to my problem each time i've mentioned being on a lower service they say there system shows me on the 8MB service so they cannot change anything.

Can someone advise what the upload speed is as i've just searched the internet and found numerous NON-Orange site showing the upload speed is 256Kb on the 8MB service
But back to my problem each time i've mentioned being on a lower service they say there system shows me on the 8MB service so they cannot change anything.
When I had this same problem and Orange told me their system showed I was on 6.5meg, I changed MTU and RWIN settings and immediately saw 5.8meg. RWIN setting is more related to speed than MTU.

OK, great......so can you throw a little more light on the matter ? Where and what do i need to change ?
My Attainable now has increased from 5888 to 6720 but i'm still getting 980kbps.
You are confusing attainable speed with with sync speed. The attainable reading is an indication of the maximum speed your line can sync at. At present, as I have already pointed out, your are on a fixed 1meg service with a download sync of 1152 and an upload sync of 288.

I can assure you that the upload syncs speed for the 1meg and 2 meg fixed services is 288. For the 8meg service it is 448

There is nothing you can do with the equipment at your end. You will need to point out to Orange that they have got you on a 1meg fixed service and you should be on the upto 8meg service. If they still insist that you are on the 8meg service then email them your line stats. That will clearly show them what you are on. Changing the RWIN settings, etc is going to have no effect. The download speed you are getting is good for the 1meg service you are on.

It's 448kbps upload for ADSL Max (which is dynamic so can be less depending on the equipment/line), LLU uses 288 just like the fixed speed IPStream connections. It's often listed as 256 as the additional upto 288 usually covers the connection overheads.

Agreed. Until your downstream rate goes up nothing you can physically do at your end will make your livebox run a faster connection.
A few extra pointers.
The attainable speed cannot be "changed" as such, it's a determination of what speed you ought to be able to get, all things being perfect. If it was previously lower then this will have been due to lower signals and generally indicates a physical problem somewhere. Your move to the master socket shows this quite well, you get a higher attainable as you get a slightly better margin. This shows there's a minor physical problem with your house wiring, nothing huge and something you really don't need to worry about at this point.
By the sounds of it your line is almost guarantteed to be an LLU line. PPP problems are much less common on IPStream connections and ADSL Max generally doesn't cap the upload speed, just the download from what I understand.
The PPP server down issue is likely at the heart of the problem. I assume they logged it as a fault and it's likely the line was downgraded as part of the measures taken to fix the problem. The downgrade can easily get hidden away in the fault info which is not something that's normally checked. If you get in touch with them again ask they can confirm the speed you're currently on with Specialist Provisions or by checking in the LLUCO system.

Yes, assuming he has full sync. Did not want to go into detail as the poster seemed to be getting confused.

Well if he/she is then the chances of the downstream sync rate being exactly that of the ADSL 1meg service must be pretty remote but possible I suppose. Still think there on ADSL 1meg though as when the OP plugged into master socker and attainable rose, the downstrean and upstream syncs remained the same.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my line - an 8meg sign-up with what seems to be a 1meg service. I think I've just finished the training period, and contacted them Three times during it to say that I thought they'd put me on a 1meg service (they went through the old "clear your internet history" rubbish). Is there anybody I can contact who will understand what I'm talking about? I'll post my line stats below - I'm on ADSL Max by the way, thank goodness:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 28.9
Attenuation (dB) : 51.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 7648
ADSL status : Connected [0]

If you are on ADSL as you state then you are not on ADSLMax. Your downstream and upstream figures indicate a fixed 1 meg ADSL service. On the fixed services there is no 10 day training period. Seems like Orange are pulling the wool over your eyes.
