I've just moved house... my connection was fine there, but now I seem to have moved into the area that broadband forgot, even though it's only just down the road.
I waited a month for Orange to hook me up. When it finally happened, I got the internet for about five sweet minutes before I lost the signal and it died again.
There's a weird pattern of lights on it, which I can't find any reference to: it flashes slowly for about 3s, stays lit for a second or two, then slowly for another ~25s, then fast for 10s. I thought it was just random for a while, then realised it took a pattern...
I've not rung Orange about it yet, because while Orange were trying to set my line up they had to ring BT and get them to do something... around this time my phone line went a bit crazy - so now when I try and dial a number, five times out of six I get 'number not recognised'. When I do get through I generally get cut off after a few minutes. This is through my main BT line, mind, not the livebox.
Anyway, the point of this long-winded post was a) a quick request for advice from anyone and b) just to post a link to a BT Line Test that I found on the BT site. I did a test on my number and they said they found a fault with the BT equipment along the line somewhere. So, I think I need to ring BT and nag them, rather than Orange. Whether this actually works remains to be seen, but thought I'd post the link just in case it helps anyone else!
"Although, once that's sorted, you'll probably find that you have got a Livebox problem"
... yup!
The BT guy's been (came very quickly actually, I was quite impressed...) and sorted out the phone line. Unfortunately the livebox is still doing exactly the same thing! Argh. Oh well - at least now I can ring Orange and be on hold for hours from the comfort of my own home.
