This first post will possibly be in the wrong place and very muddled, Was with Wanadoo swopped to BT as they offered a good package but due to problems with their accounts security, had to change ISP so swopped back to Orange in July..Netgear Router and Norton 360 installed on new PC equipment by Tech Guys as ISP was changed..so total PC dimbo can not be accused of messing up. full price here for 12 months of £19.99 a mth. BTW PC World didn't tell me of any offer that i have seen mentioned here thank goodness as I only signed for 1 year.
BT say my line will support 2.9 ASDLMAX so have just called Orange, after logging my speeds on here for a few days..which in my opinion are appalling. Firstly the dreaded call centre and their checklist, its being caused by Norton we need to do a speed test with that disabled, phone Norton who will help you lower the settings, No I replied the speed should not be dependant on whether I have Norton which was set up correctly. Then it was the fault of not using their livebox..call centre most annoyed when I told them wireless signal from it was rubbish in my home..hence RangeMax usuage.Next was we can't do anyything till you have contacted Netgear and Norton, I began to get rather cross aand let it show by tone of voice added for good measure that Exchange was not the problem as BT had checked it during previous troubles and Orange had of course done a line check in July when they accepted my application..
Then they couldn't esculate to the infamous line check as there is an 'error' message showing phone back in 5 working days after i had refused to run the thinkbroadband check for her and read out my recorded speeds stored here and then told her where I was reading them from..ho hum..She was told bluntly I was not prepared to pay this money for another 11 months for this level of service, will now wait 5 working days..
When Orange tell you to ring back in 5 working days it's merely to stall you.
They don't actually do anything.
I've been down that road myself.
My advice is to get your MAC code from them and leave ASAP.
Even if you are in a contract with them they have to give you your MAC, by law.
The remaining contract is then null and void as they have broken it so you don't owe them anything.
Post the results, if it gives an error try it later or the next day to make sure, it could mean you're on an LLU connection.
Also if you can access your router's line stats what does it show for upstream, downstream, noise margin and attenuation?
Hi and thank you I hope I have got the correct information to post here, not a very good PC person.

Hi and thank you I hope I have got the correct information to post here, not a very good PC person.
You got everything needed except the IP profile from the BT test but that's actually irrelevant due to what the speedtests are showing.

We can tell the line type from the upload speed, anything over 288kbps means it's an ADSL Max line.
Attenuation is high meaning your line is pretty long so you'll never get much speed from it.
Margin is a little over the normal target of 6, I expect this means it's been increased as previously it was around 5.2 which could of made it quite unstable.
Currently you're getting the best profile, 1.5meg you can get for that line, it also suggests it's reasonably stable.
You may be able to improve things slightly be checking your home's phone wiring but to be honest I really don't see you getting much more speed from that line. 2 meg at a push if you're lucky.
