I have a Belkin f5d7632-4 adsl modem and wireless-g router.
My adsl had been working fine for 12+ months. However, 6 weeks ago I started getting very poor adsl connection. Times out after 5-10 minutes; only works once a day; that sort of thing.
The problem does not occur when I use the fixed line broadband Speedtouch modem which Wanadoo provided me when I first signed up; with that I get good and (mostly) uninterrupted adsl connection.
The adsl led on my Belkin flashes on and off; it will NOT stay on constantly.
Is there anything I can do at my end? Is this an Orange issue or a Belkin issue - I don't have time to chase the two of them one after the other.
Do I need a line and whoosh test; if so, I don't understand why this problem has only recently developed after (reasonably) good service until then.
Sounds more like a problem with the belkin. A line test won't help much if you use the speedtouch, it'll more than likely say all is well and nothing much will happen.
Some other forums have suggested there might be a problem with this particular Belkin model's chipset in light of recent upgrading at the exchange. If so, will the problem persist if I change ISP? (I know I am betraying total technical ignorance at this point.)
In other words, should I buy a new modem/router anyway (and, if so, does anyone have any recommendations - the Belkin worked OK until its recent problems but my motto is "buy cheap, buy twice)?

Belkins are usually good routers but i would recommend a Netgear router they are very easy to set up and configure ive had a couple of them my current one is a DG834PN.

The cheapest option usually isn't the best though it can be good for backup and testing. You may want to see if you can borrow a router to try and see if it makes a difference.
Changing ISP probably wouldn't make a difference unless you're on a LLU connection. Even then it's possible the problem could follow you to another ISP's connection be that IPStream or LLU.
