Managed to finally leave Orange behind me a month ago now, however was shocked to find Orange up to its old tricks again - there is currently an offer (tv ads, Im sure youve seen) where you get a free laptop from PCWorld if you take out a 2 YEAR""" contract with Orange broadband, for £14.99 a month. Shocking how low they stoop to pick up customers.
Yeah i saw the advert at the end of last week. It's shocking to think that lots of people are going to get stung by this. What is the actual spec of the machine? I'd assume it can't be that great if they are giving it away for free. Think they should concentrate more on trying to please their current customers than getting more people to sign up. Mind you that's where there most there money will come in and once your under contract thats you screwed to a certian degree!
The laptops are nothing too great the cheeky gits even try to get people to go get there MAC code from their isp to get this offer. And how are people going to get by when the problems start.Last I knew Orange did not support vista or ie7

Vista and IE7 are supported and the adverts are actually wrong, internal details show that you'll be held to the, now standard to the two packages, 18 month contract and not 24 months.
been with freeserve/wanadoo/ornage for about 5 years
Never had a problem with them
So why am I posting?
'cos as an existing customer on the 2Mb / 2GB tariff I don't seem to qualify for a free laptop
I'll sign up for 2 years sure, now give me my £300 laptop voucher, or will they make me go through the arse-ache of leaving them and re-joining? If anything's going to make me sniff out a new ISP, even though Orange works fine for me, it's being taken for granted

You have to signup in the store itself and it's only for a full new signup. All the internal stuff says this offer will not be offered to existing customers at all. It's a straight no and says retention is done with the standard offers and nothing extra.
yeh, looks that way. They need a months notice to shut down current subscription and word is laptops will be long gone by then...
well, I'll see if i can whittle them down from the £17.99 to £12.99 that others are apparently paying. If not, looks like MAC code time. Orange are cutting their own throats here, they'll lose as many current customers as they'll gain new ones with this attitude...

Offer is only onpen to new connecting customers Via PC World (Free laptop) or Currys (£300 off a laptop)
You need to register in PC World or Currys, and once connected you get a letter from Orange saying "You can now pick up your free laptop/£300 voucher".
It's a little unfair, but the obvious aim of it is to drive new connections.

In PC World, yeah. However because the Curry's offer is a £300 discount rather than for a specific laptop it'll run until they choose to discontinue it. Internal details pretty much say exactly this.
Hi, have been watching this site for some time but have only just registered,
I am one of the lucky ones who has been with freeserve / wanadoo / orange for 8 years without any problems at all,
I have just been to PC World with my mother to sign her up for the free laptop deal, I new the free model wouldnt be up to much so we decided to pay £69.99 for an upgrade to a better model, after sitting in PC World for 90 minutes we were told that none of the laptops as advertised were available not even the free one, and were offered £300 of any other laptop. ok so this is still a good deal but I feel that the offer is a cheap trick to get you in the store, and the offer is essentially the same as Currys. when challenged they said is was down to Orange not providing enough laptops and if I didnt want the offer i could leave!.
I also managed to get a look at the internal sales instruction leaflets ( i can read upside down) and the staff are under clear instructions to upsell as much as possible using antivirus, cases, and extended warranties. so be on your guard.
