I have an email the other day telling me they were upgrading my speed on the 17th July.
I'm already on 8mb and getting 5mb average.
Then I get another email today telling me :
Hello
We've finished making the changes we emailed you about and you're now getting up to 7.5 Meg broadband.
If you have one of our USB modems (not the Livebox) you might need to change the settings before you can enjoy the new speed. Go to http://www.orange.co.uk/member...pgrade.htm to see how.
Happy surfing.
Now I'm lucky to get 2.5mb.
How is that an upgrade and my download speed has gone down from 360 to 240kb.
Your line has been migrated onto the LLU system from ADSL Max. You'll also notice your upload speed has reduced to a maximum 288kbps. As for saying you're on 7.5 meg, that depends on what sync speed you have for starters.
Basically when people get put onto LLU with Orange their connection is wrecked forever, with very little chance of it working properly again.
Your best bet is to move to a real ISP that can provide a service not a joke.
I moved, after they did my LLU and wrecked everything, last year to Idnet.
Never looked back since - fast, reliable, customer service is fantastic, free, caring and ENGLISH speaking.

Why is the LLU system so poor? I don't think I've heard of a single story of anyone getting faster speeds due to this migration - my own speeds went from 5mb to 608k
I think the main problem is that Orange are not an ISP, just an excuse for one.
They are a mobile phone company who are trying to gather more customers than they can cater for with their pathetic, over-subscribed broadband 'service'.
The only way to get a good connection is to move to a real ISP.

Well it could be identical to ADSL Max but that would cost them a fortune. BT went for a really expensive, although mostly automated adaptive system, which works pretty well in most situations. All this means is when there is a problem where ADSL Max can auto adapt the LLU system can't and has to be manually "tweaked". All depends on the type of problem though.
Well every time I make a call the other persons phone rings and when they pick it up I get an engaged tone and it kicks me off the internet.
I call Orange in the day as I'm also getting kicked off the internet every 20 mins or so. If I call in the day I get UK call staff and that helps!
Anyway they tell me to check all my cables and swap them over etc. I'm also using a splitter box that allows me to use the same phone for 2 lines. I've been using all of this for the last 3 months and all has been well. The day they change me to LLU then it all stops working. I do as they ask and swap cables and use the adaptor plug for the RJ45 into the bottom of the livebox instead of the cable I have.
All this can not work I said to the guy as it all worked fine 3 days ago and now its all broke!
When blow me down it all works fine now.....
My speed has gone up to over 6mb, the phone is working fine and I'm no longer getting kickec off all the time and no longer when I make a call.
How can that be? Needless to say I'm having to use 2 phones now instead of the splitter box but at least it's all working ok.
If you check the Broadband Buyer forum you'll find exactly this sort of problem cropping up at random for others trying to use a splitter box like that to combine the lines. Seems to some problem with them.
