I cancelled with Wanadoo back in early 05 as I was moving overseas. I have since found out that they've charged me ever since then. Just called to find out what's going on, and they claim that the cancellation was never logged so they won't be refunding me.
It's just my word against theirs I suppose. Do I have a leg to stand on?
Unfortuantly it can be very hard to argue the point when it's been such a long time since you tried to cancel and you've been paying all that time without taking it up with them.
However, you'll need to get through to escalations or higher for this really, you may be able to get them so make a gesture with part of it. First you'll need to get them to check your line to hopefully show it was long ago ceased by BT as you moved out. Once you have that you can prove you've not had the service, although it's technically not Orange's job to make sure BT don't cease your line and they don't have a system to automatically check this. Then hopefully someone higher up can be reasonable and offer you some of the cost back.
Are you saying that you have no documentary proof of cancellation? Was it done on a phone call? The lessons of life can be harsh.
Orange are very good at NOT sending out account closure letters unless it's in their favour to do so (e.g. non payment). When I cancelled I had to complain to the ISPA in order to get a letter stating my account was closed with no monies owed.
Good thing because the cheeky sods tried to bill me and couldn't as I cancelled the direct debit then they write to me to say my account is suspended..........
Get a letter, complain, scream and shout if they refuse.
