I've been on Orange every since they swallowed Wanadoo and I keep having disconnection problems. The thing is, I'm not sure if it's a problem with Orange or my Netgear DG834GT router.
I frequently (usually more than 2 or 3 times a day) am becoming disconnected though the 'i' light on my Netgear remains on. I find that if I reset the router I nearly always get my connection back (almost) immediately.
So can anyone tell me if there is a problem with my router or does the fault lie with Orange? If you need to ask anymore questions to help me, please do so.
Sounds more like the router or the PC <-> router connection to me at first glance.
The router should have it's own config pages, can you access them when it loses connection? If not then I'd say it's either the connection between them or the router itself.
If it's a wireless connection what happens if you tell it to disconnect and then try connecting again?
If wired what about if you unplug the cable and plug it back in, even try a different port if it has more available.

Elhana- I'll give your advice a go when the problem next occurs and I'll tell you what I find.
stevelondon- I connect via ethernet on my Desktop computer, but also wirelessly when I'm borrowing my Dad's laptop. I've found that when one loses access to the Internet, so does the other. As for the firewall, I'm using the Norton Personal Firewall that came as part of Norton Internet Security 2007.

What netgear are you using and also do you have the latest firmware installed ? it will be on the router status page at the top make a note of what it is then at the bottom right under web support click on knowledge base and the latest version will Be Broadband top left under downloads.
I know what a nuisance this problem is it used to drive me mad i havnt had the problem for ages now.
