I have been having some connection / PPP auth failure issues / unable to send mail sometimes, etc...
And when I contact Orange they tell me it is my fault and that I need to change my contract and get a Livebox and this will also allow me to have a faster link, as the current line will only support 2Meg. Is this true?
The stats for my current link are:
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 20.5 30.0
Attenuation (dB): 49.5 27.0
Output Power (dBm): 11.3 18.9
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 5472 1252
Rate (Kbps): 2272 288
K (number of bytes in DMT frame): 72 10
R (number of check bytes in RS code word): 0 0
S (RS code word size in DMT frame): 1 1
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Your stats show that you have 2M (2272) speed. They also suggest that you could get more (<5.4M)
It's cobblers when they use the phrase "your line will only support x", else why get a Livebox to go faster!
I had simillar problems on the Speedtouch and to be fair they were resolved when I went to Livebox (I've had other problems with the Livebox, but that's another story!).
I signed up with Freeserve back in 2004 on a "line only" contract with free speed upgrades and un-capped service. Everything was fine, they kept increasing the line speed, and then.... about Nov of last year the service
has just gone downhill ......
Not very good for an up to 8mb service. Could be worse some are on 608 which is about 0.5 mb.
For the reason you will have to ask Orange. Until you ask for a MAC code they will not take the cap off.
Depends if he is on an upto 8 meg service or not. LLU would explain those speeds but if it's not LLU then it's an IPStream connection. The reasons, while not stricktly true, if he wanted to upgrade to ADSL Max then it's a matter of changing to a livebox package rather than for the livebox itself.
If it is LLU then yeah, it's capped at 2 meg for some reason
